About 8 months ago I found myself in an extremely tough spot in life facing a 4th DUI charge in Kent County. Before meeting Ed, I had first reached out to 4 different attorneys in Grand Rapids and they all only offered damage control for my case- essentially just leading me to plead guilty and hope for only a 3 or 4-month jail sentence. I had too much on the line to lose and couldn’t just settle that easily. I remember seeing Ed’s website and was drawn to his enthusiasm and overall knowledge of the justice system and really liked that he was a former private investigator and was detail orientated. I met with Ed for a one-hour consultation and quickly realized that he was the only one that could give me a chance to challenge this. From the very start it is very apparent that Ed is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he does and helping others. Ed is a very driven, enthusiastic, honest, and passionate person. Ed was able to achieve getting the breathalyzer results suppressed and ultimately getting the case dismissed- an outstanding performance and for me a true miracle! I am absolutely convinced that no other lawyer would have found the small police mistakes that he had found and built into a compelling case. Ed studied every second of each police cam and created a spectacular detailed motion to suppress document. And Ed absolutely delivered in the motion hearing! I can also say that when I walked alongside Ed in the courthouse, other lawyers often approach him to ask how in the world he got cases they heard about dismissed. And Ed’s messages back were usually along the lines of having to take the deep dive into the details and not give up easily. And this is what Ed did for me that others couldn’t or wouldn’t. He dissected every word of the police reports and didn’t stop there- he watched every second and documented every word/action/etc of each of the police videos. He has the knowledge and determination to do what’s best for his clients in order to truly deliver. Ed has saved me from enormous hardships in life from severe jail sentences to license revoking and job loss. In the end, Ed reduced a 4th OWI, assault-and-battery, and PBT refusal case into just a misdemeanor littering charge. Furthermore, in his own little ways he had helped me with my sobriety throughout the process. I thank God everyday that I had called Ed instead! Give yourself a chance like I did- and go with Ed!
Attorney Sternisha is a spectacular lawyer! As a DUI attorney, I believe there is no better individual to represent one who has made a mistake. Ed knows the ins and outs of our rights to due process, especially when taking on drunk driving cases because he is a former police officer himself. While going over the dashcam footage with him, he was able to pick out minute details, such as the arresting officer's incorrect use of what "maximum deviate" means when the HGN test was conducted to check for nystagmus. Also, Ed picked out minute visual details as well, such as when the officer read the walk in a straight line instructions to me--the officer told me to leave my hands at my side. I then asked him, showing my hands at my side, "like this?" and the officer responded, "just like that". Then when I began walking heel to toe in a straight line, the officer told me to put my hands by my side. However, when I asked the officer earlier if how I had my hands placed before if they were okay, he said "just like that". Ed was able to pinpoint the arresting officer's sloppy job. Overall Ed did a great job; I am glad I was able to work with him, and if it weren't for other things that have come up in my life since the start of the case, I was looking forward to fighting with Ed on this case, until the end. While I did learn relatively quickly that Ed was very knowledgeable as a lawyer and DUI attorney, what took greater precedent in my mind was the way Ed carries and has carried himself throughout his life. Having an attorney that is willing to fight until the end, with an endless determination is the most important attribute of an attorney in most people's minds, but ultimately, an attorney that is willing to open up about his life experiences and is able to relate to his/her clients while working on their case is what I have found to be most important. Ed is the perfect-most example of the saying, "Do NOT judge a book by its cover" because his work ethic truly shows where he is today. Ed could've quit along time ago, and wouldn't be where he is today if it weren't for his willingness to excel and learn every detail in the documents he is given or documents he finds to be useful. With Ed I learned much more about life than just about how DUI cases work--"what matters in life is not what happens to us, but how we react to and handle what life throws at us!" Thank you, Ed!
Ed was an amazing lawyer. He was very responsive. Anytime I called, text, or emailed him he would get back to me right away. Even if it was a sunday, or a holiday. You can see he is truly dedicated. He knows the ins and outs of DUI cases. He stays updated on all the police laws, and regulations. He made me feel comfotable in the court room. He told me what to say and what not to say. Very impressed overall. I have no complaints.
Mr. Sternisha is the perfect example of someone who excells in separating a person from their mistake. Having never been in trouble before my OWI, I was guilt ridden and full of anxiety. Ed assured me right away that I was a book not to be judged my its cover; that my mistake did NOT define who I was or how the rest of my life would play out. As a cop himself, Ed knows the ins and outs of every little detail that goes into a DUI arrest and making a case. He was able to point out little mistakes the arresting officer made and thus lower the charges to an OWI-VI, saving my driving privileges. After every court date, Mr. Sternisha would sit outside the court house on a bench with me, talking about how he himself was not perfect and how he had still clearly made a name for himself. Even if it took an hour, he would sit there with me, well past the time he needed to be there, and talk me through any anxieties I had regarding the case, never leaving until he knew I was ready. More than a lawyer, Ed is an amazing person who really, truly cares, and does see the best in everyone; we’re all humans, we all make mistakes, but they don’t have to define us, and Ed never fails to make that well known in the court room.
I was definitely guilty in my second case and Ed was able to finish my case with 0 jail time. That was the primary goal and it was accomplished. He is a tad more pricy compared to other lawyers but it’s worth it based on his experience/background. He’s a part time cop, still licensed as an insurance agent, teaches law and of course the dude is a lawyer. He is quick to respond, modest, friendly and knowledgeable. He also has good rapport with the judges I was given from what I noticed. Anyways, I’m currently in the sobriety program and I’m glad I am cause my incident was a big eye opener. I definitely recommend Ed! Don’t take your case lightly and run towards this man full-speed. Take care and keep this man in mind, I appreciate you Ed! - Asian Sam
I talked to several attornies, made the decision to go with Ed, when I ran into one of the other attornies in an elevator he stated, "that is an unbelievable outcome" the mess I was in needed a master of custodial arts to clean up... Ed surpassed all expectations.
I recently hired Ed Sternisha to represent myself for my first offense OWI case. Ed was very thorough with reviewing my case. He made sure I was informed every step of the process. Ed was able to help me get the OWI reduced to impaired and I ended up with a reduced sentence, which I was very please about. Ed is very good at what he does, he knows the ins and outs of everything and takes the time on each case to make sure he doesn't miss anything. Out of all the lawyers we watched on sentencing day Ed was the only Lawyer to speak when the judge ask if he had anything to say about his client. This made such a big difference in my case. Also Ed is available at all hours of the day one night I had problems with submitting paperwork and he stayed up til 11 texting to make sure we got it done. I would recommend Ed to anyone that gets a DUI/OWI. CALL ED INSTEAD!!
Ed performed professionally and was very thorough. He exceeded my expectations. He had very good questions and provided good advice throughout the process. Highly recommended.
Following an unfortunate incident, I was terrified and looking for legal counsel. After reaching out to Ed, I left a voicemail message detailing my situation. Within a couple minutes I received a call back from Ed asking in-depth and relevant questions regarding my unique case. This man definitely knows the in's and out's of cases of this nature, and helped keep me at ease to the best of his abilities. Ed will not guarantee any particular outcome, as these cases are very fluid and vary, however he was always honest and direct. A tireless worker, and someone who truly cared. After a battle with many twists and turns, Ed was critical in getting my case dismissed. These situations are scary and overwhelming. However, with Ed by your side you will have the best chance to achieve your desired outcome. Three words...HIRE THIS MAN!
First drunk driving charge. Ed will represent in the best possible light. Ed will always find different an alternate ways to defend you in best possible way. Ed lowered my case to an OWVI allowing me continue working and avoiding all other possible outcomes that could have been worse. At first I felt overwhelmed when it came to the process of how everything would go and Ed was able to thoroughly and clearly explain the process so I was fully aware of not only my current state in the case but what will happen in court in terms of how things work. If you are looking for an attorney to represent you in the best possible way, someone who will help out your mind at ease and someone who always able answer any of your questions, I highly recommend Ed sternisha.
