Mr. MacColl helped our family with a car accident me and my mother were in. He was attentive, tough with the insurance company's lawyers, and patient when we didn't understand the process. He also discounted his fee so that the settlement go through faster and my elderly mother wouldn't be put through a trial.
The two recent bad reviews are obviously fake - they didn't even spell the attorney's last name correctly. Edward S. MacColl has been my family's attorney for decades. When my father passed away, he and his paralegal were attentive, kind and professional, as they have been for the years we have known them. It is disgusting that someone obviously way too much time on their hands would disparage an attorney whose actions and consideration for his clients go against every bad, greedy attorney stereotype. Ed MacColl is the type of person you want on your side.
Ed MacColl has helped me with a few cases and I have recommended him to a bunch of companies and individuals. He really knows his stuff and he works extra hard to make sure he helps his clients.
Attorney Maccoll was recommended to me by one of his partners. I had business partners that attempted to defraud me of the equity in my company. Although Attorney Maccoll accepted my case, he took little interest in it. He has a temper, walked out of the room on me. Did nothing to prepare for mediation. Showed little initiative to help. I do not know what, if anything, motivates Ed Maccoll. If you need a lawyer keep looking.
I can't believe he has practiced law for as long as he has. Background: I had a civil matter that required legal representation. Summary review:. Personality: Zero. I don't know if he is just an introvert or has another issue but he did not had a hard time just having a normal conversation. Professional:. I have to agree with some of the reviewers. He didn't follow up and just seemed unorganized.
In reading the reviews by other lawyers you would think Edward MacColl is an attorney you can trust. I can't, in good conscious, agree with those opinions. I had a consultation regarding a civil matter and I felt as though I was wasting his time. The case I had was not for a lot of money and maybe that was the reason I was brushed aside. When I called back asking if there was anything I needed to provide; those calls were never returned. This was just my experience.
I wish I had done a better review before hiring Ed Maccoll. The case was a simple civil case between myself and a client who owed me money. At first Ed came across as competent but as time wore on I could see that he was far from that. He missed a couple crucial points in the case. He even missed a deadline. I asked him why he hadn't submitted the information on time. His excuse, "Sorry I was away hiking." when asked couldn't you have instructed some one like your paralegal to fill in for you. His response,"No she couldn't because she was away with me." At that point I was totally disgusted. I had my case transferred to another attorney. In light of this he even tried to charge me for something he didn't do. Stay away that would be my advice.
Its taken a while to write this because I wanted to give distance to a painful and emotional experience. Ed Maccoll claims to be a steward of the law, but my experience is far less favorable. His in actions, though not raising to the bar of being criminally negligent; were, in my opinion, a circumstance of poor judgement that cost me thousands of dollars that otherwise would not have been lost. In addition the firms accounting and invoicing are below standards I had to consistently asked to see invoices so I knew how much of my retainer was remaining. The invoices ended coming in months behind schedule with charges that could not be explained. Caution to anyone who thinks he can help you.
