Edgar Catlin was assisting with the closing of my home. He was hired by the buyer to do a title search and the closing. He was hired by myself to create the deed and to make sure that all paperwork with my 1031 was filed in Maine and that the forms were signed. The day before the closing he began asking me for information that he needed in order to prepare the Maine tax exception paperwork for the 1031. The paperwork for the 1031 was previously prepared by my regular attorney in Virginia and Mr. Catlin was simply getting signatures and making sure a form was filed with the state prior to closing. When he choose to begin the process the last business day before the closing, it created an unnecessary stress. To make matters worse, all of the required documents for my 1031 were not signed and now I am more frustrated at the lack of unprofessionalism. Mr. Catlin seemed to be either be understaffed/overextended (it is just him and one other person), not detailed or having a bad transaction. I hope it is the later. However, when you need a lawyer you want your transaction to go smoothly. I was underwhelmed not only with the service, but lack of technology as well.
