About

Doug is a former Navy Nuclear Submarine officer and Air Force JAG who worked with the Department of Defense and Department of State (the US Embassy in Kabul) while deployed to Qatar and Afghanistan to help draft the Status of Forces Agreement and Bilateral Security Agreement signed by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai in September 2014. Also, while Doug was deployed, he briefed a 1-Star General on developing Intelligence Law issues on a weekly basis, as well as (among other things) advising US Central Command on information releases regarding detainees and other sensitive records. How does this help you? Doug knows how to manage multiple areas of the law while bringing efficiency and a unique personal touch. In other words, you won’t be our only client, but our goal is to make you feel like you’re our only client. Doug met his wife in Tucson while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona College of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering.  Doug also graduated from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law in 2012 where he earned the Ralph E. Long Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to the College of Law in 2011, the Gonzales-Villarreal Bridge Program Award in 2012, and earned several other scholarships and awards (read below in Doug's Avvo profile for more information). Also, while earning his Law Degree, Doug worked for the Law School’s Veterans’ Advocacy Clinic; Chief Judge John Roll’s office in the Federal District Court in Tucson, Arizona; and Judge Eileen Hollowell’s chambers at the Bankruptcy Court in Tucson, Arizona. Doug also argued an immigration/asylum case at the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Pasadena, California, under the Law School’s Ninth Circuit Pro Bono Appellate program. During Law School, Doug was an Editor for the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy (Vol 35, Issue 1), and worked with University of Arizona MBA students in the MBA & Law School’s Law, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Program where he acted as counsel and volunteered his time at the Arizona Center for Innovation assisting current and future Entrepreneurs to develop and protect their rising enterprises. On the side, Doug spends as much time as he can with his wife and four children, assists Churches, Schools, and Religious Non-Profits, and is an Allied Attorney with Alliance Defending Freedom, a First Amendment Legal Advocacy Organization. Admissions: Supreme Court of Arizona Federal District of Arizona Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces Follow Doug on Twitter:  @DougNewbornLike Our Page on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/dougnewbornlawfirm/

My elderly father hired Atty. Newborn to resolve a breach of a verbal agreement between himself and his son where his son took a significant amount of money not owed to him after the sale of my fathers property. Atty. Newborns assistant Isaiah researched case law due to the nature of this particular incident and along with other factors in this case helped my father *win* his case. Atty. Newborn and the office personnel were always professional. Our calls were returned if we had questions and my father was kept current about case progression. *The down side to this case, which has nothing to do with Atty. Newborn who did a fantastic job, is that my father will probably never recover his money because the COURT SYSTEM/LAWS do not protect the victim/plaintiff from defendants who liquidate assets to avoid liens or collection of payment and or disappear prior to the case being decided in court. How does a victim recover his stolen money from the unscrupulous defendant? Something to think about if pursuing a defendant in a civil case where money is involved. These laws need to be changed to protect the victims. Yes my father won which is great - but on paper only.

Mr. Newborn provided important information and support when I called him (upon referral by the PCBA LRS) regarding a bad last-minute situation in my potential purchase of a house. He confirmed my legal rights with normal layperson's terms and an understanding approach. A few days later, I hired him to send a letter ASAP to the parties concerned. He responded with unusual timeliness, and the excellent letter which clearly stated the relevant facts of the matter and my legal rights went out just a short time after our phone consultations about it. This may not always be able to be the case, but it revealed that he knew, and cared, that time is of the essence in this particular case. I don't yet know what the outcome may be! But if successful, I'm sure that Mr. Newborn's expertise and straightforward presentation deserve the credit. If unsuccessful, well, I know he wrote the best possible letter and there was just no way that the other party would comply as per the law stated to them. Of course I hope to receive good news soon, and have a successful outcome re the house purchase scheduled in just 3 days. We shall soon see. Thank you, Mr. Newborn, for being a GOOD lawyer!

Regardless of my finances presently Mr Newborn took the time to review my semi-detailed description of a looming financial disaster and wrote back of a general plan getting from today to when I can reasonably expect to have the funds to initiate filing for bankruptcy. He also kept his door open by allowing me to send him pertinent information along the way. Mr. Newborn is interested in professional lasting results. I've met some attorneys who are interested in the quickest route to their next pay ~ Mr Newborn is not like that.
