About
I go by "Wil Miller" not "Douglas Miller" (AVVO does not give you the option to list your name that way).I am an attorney in private practice with Story Law in Bellevue, Washington, where I focus on family law (both litigation and collaborative law) and criminal defense. I also handled a limited number of attorney discipline cases, and admission to practice cases. I am a graduate of Duke Law School Class of 1988, with 32 years of legal experience. In addition to my legal practice, I also volunteer as a mentor, monitor and recovery coach for legal professionals struggling with addiction. My own tale of addiction, recovery and reinvention was the cover story for Northwest Lawyer Magazine's June 2014 edition. I hired Wil in a time of family crisis and he was an excellent attorney in all regards. He was extremely knowledgeable and efficient in swiftly resolving the issue in court. He is a true advocate you can trust. Highly recommend this lawyer.
I hired Wil for two fairly complicated issues, both of which are now resolved, and both in my favor. I feel as if I finally have a lifelong attorney I can call whenever I need the legal expertise he practices!
Our son was wrongly accused of rape, but no one believed us. Mr. Miller investigated the case and showed the prosecutor our son had been wrongly accused. We are so grateful Mr. Miller was our son's lawyer. Without his insight and experience our son would be a registered sex offender.
I hired will to vacate my record of conviction for a drug offense I committed over ten years ago. Wil didn't only get the conviction vacated, he got my criminal history records with the Washington State Patrol expunged, then had my court records sealed. He even got my FBI number purged from the FBI database so I could get a Global Entry card and avoid the long lines at the airport. After that, Wil got my right to possess a firearm restored. Wil was super responsive to all my emails and he kept me informed every step of the way. Thank you Wil!
Mr. Miller represented my son in juvenile court who was accused of a very serious sexual offense. Mr. Miller's experience in that field made all the difference. He was able to assess the situation very quickly, get my son into counselling and prevented him from being a registered sex offender. Now our family is whole again and it's in large part to Mr. Miller's experience and fast and decisive action. I strongly recommend him.
I was accused of a serious crime and I didn't see a lot of hope. My problem was really rooted in my addiction to methamphetamine which led to a lot of bad behavior on my part. Wil didn't just do an amazing job convincing the prosecutor to give me a chance to go to recovery instead of prison, he also convinced me of how much I needed to be in treatment. What an amazing role mode. We have remained in close contact during my recovery and he continues to inspire me every day. Thank you Wil!
I met Wil six months ago when I hired him for some criminal charges. He was very attentive and caring from our first meeting. I knew that he would take care of me and help me as best he could. He was able to have me found not guilty in a case in which I think few other attorneys could. I was impressed by his knowledge and professionalism. I would recommend him to anyone I know.
Mr. Miller helped in a profound way with my parenting/ visitation case. He is so smart, I felt I was in great hands the whole way. Thank you sir!!
Mr. Miller was a great help to me and my family. I moved to Seattle when I was just out of college and met my wife. I knew she had been addicted to drugs before we got married and I thought that together raising a family she would always stay clean. But after our baby was born she went back to using. I wanted to move back to Georgia where my parents are, but my wife was not willing. I tried everything I could to work with the system and the law to get help for her and to protect my child. It became very difficult because i had to work full time and I could not trust her with the baby. So I had to cover the cost of day care which pretty much financially bankrupted us. My parents thankfully offered to cover the costs of a lawyer. A friend of mine knew Mr. Miller and so I called him. When I told him what had happened to my wife, he told me about his time on drugs and about how he recovered and It made me feel better that someone so smart could make the same mistakes. He helped me navigate the seemingly impossible obstacles that I was facing. Mr. Miller is the reason I live back in Georgia with my daughter today, and I will always appreciate the help he gave us.
Recently, I consulted with Mr. Miller regarding a custody issue involving my oldest child. He immediately was very open and upfront regarding his past drug issues and having been disbarred. I felt even more comfortable working with Mr. Miller after discussing that. In fact, much of my custody situation involves drug issues. He has a level of understanding that goes beyond other attorneys that I have spoken with or worked with in the past and it has been greatly appreciated. He was able help me resolve the problems going on without having to go to court in a way that worked best for everyone, especially my child. I highly recommend Mr. Miller. Everyone has a past and people like him are a valuable resource to the community.
