I would recommend her. I believe she knows her stuff - she's been doing this for awhile and was able to help me and my ex-husband think outside the box for solutions.
I had a fairly complicated case. Annette kept me focused on what mattered. She didn't tell me what I wanted to hear. She didn't allow herself to become my therapist. She did not 'troll around in the mud' as my ex-spouses several attorneys did. Divorce is an emotional thing for those of us that go through it, especially when children are involved. As good as it would have felt at times to have hired someone to placate me and throw stones at the other side, my child and i (and even my former spouse -whether she realizes it or not) have all benefitted greatly from Annette's knowledge and professionalism.
Annette Burns handled our divorce mediation in a very skilled and professional way. I didn't think we had a chance of settling our issues, but working with Annette was a pleasure.
My ex and I agreed to use Annette Burns as a parenting coordinator in our family court case, so this review is limited to that role. In a nutshell, she was terrible! I found her judgment, dedication and thoroughness before making decisions to be lacking. The best testament I can give to the quality of her work is the fact that out of the four total recommendations she submitted in our case, THREE of them were overturned by the judge. Buyer beware: The rules in AZ have changed that give parenting coordinators the power to make decisions on behalf of your case without the ability to appeal to a judge. Having a judge that gave our case the appropriate attention and deliberation it deserved was the only saving grace for our family.
Annette appeared welcoming and kind at first meetings; however, as time went on it became more and more apparent that she had little interest in my case and more interest in making sure I paid my invoice on time. She did not return emails or phone calls in a timely manor unless it was related to billing. She rarely assisted me in my case but continued to charge me large amounts. I would definitely use caution when using Annette and recommend looking elsewhere.
There are a lot of things I would like to say on this email, however I will keep it short and to the point. At a cost of $300 per hour, Annette Burns provided nothing but disappointment. I(we) are still trying to resolve matters that were handled extremely unprofessionally and certainly unsatisfactorily by Annette Burns. My review is emphatically negative.
