I am a man who just went through a divorce as the defendant in the case. When my wife sought legal and physical custody of our three children, I needed a professional divorce exert with experience. I needed an attorney I could trust to represent me and protect my rights as father for my children. I was fortunate to hire Dorothea Aguero to help me win shared custody so that my children would have a dad in the town where we live. Dorothea worked diligently on my case. She told me what to expect and prepared legal documents for the judge to sign. Her knowledge of the law, divorce procedures, and advice to me was crucial. I worked hard to provide her with the information that she needed to work into evidence for our case and legal documents that she prepared. Dorothea achieve a win for me, actually for my children. The shared custody result was achieved because Dorothea walked into court prepared with a notebook full of exhibits (documents as evidence) and a list of questions to ask me and my ex. She respected me as a client. She and I communicated well before and during the two-day court trial. She listened to my points of view, my ideas for evidence, and incorporated my documents into her presentation during trial. Dorothea told me that half of her clients are men. I am one of those men who can say that she helped me achieve a custody victory and a low monthly child support payment. Now my kids get to have a full-time dad in my town. My ex-wife did not get to take my kids away to another state.
Dorothea represented me in both a divorce w/no children and then again for a Prenuptial Agreement . The divorce was stressful enough and Dorothea handled all the paperwork necessary and it went smooth and simple. Later I contracted her again for a Pre-Nup. I was very impressed with her 16 page boiler plate write up that we tweaked to fit our situation. A friend of mine has been dealing with his divorce for a while and I have already recommended Dorothea to him
After first consulting with Dorothea for advice, I hired her to represent me in my divorce case as a military spouse, and I was very pleased with the way she handled my case and with the outcome she achieved for me. Dorothea is very personable, down to earth and easy to talk to. I never had a problem contacting her, whether by phone or email. She worked very hard on my case and kept me informed of everything that was happening along the way. My case involved complicated military issues, involving my ex's several different retirements from active duty, the national guard and reserves and also VA disability matters. Dorothea was very familiar with most of the retirements, and for the couple complicated issues that came up in my particular case, where she wasn't as familiar, she consulted with a military retirement expert in Georgia, and through a conference call with this gentleman, we both learned a lot about the details of my ex's military retirement accounts and how the military handles them in divorce cases. I can't imagine a military matter that Dorothea wouldn't be able to handle, especially after handling my case. Dorothea spent many hours and late nights working on my case before trial, and I felt that her billings were very fair. I never felt over-charged; in fact, she gave me a credit for time she spent consulting with the military expert, because she felt that some of the time spent went toward educating herself for my case and for future cases where these issues might come up. I can only speak of my own experience going through a military divorce, but I was very pleased with Dorothea's handling of my case. I would definitely recommend her to others, and I will call her again for any legal matters that may come up in the future.
I was very happy with all the help given to me by Dorothea Aguero and her office staff. I was always updated on what and when things were happening with my case. Billing was sent out on time with cost breakdown very easy to understand. Dorothea Aguero or her office staff always returned my calls with answers to any questions that I may have had pertaining to my case. I would be a returning client if I should have need of this type of representation again.
I have been working with this attorney for many years. She has stuck with me and been willing to help me in any way possible. She does get busy and sometimes it is hard to reach her but she does the job I hired her to do, represent me and my best interest. She cares about her clients and will do her best to represent them. She is very knowledgeable and if there is something she is not sure about she reaches out to her resources. The most frustrating aspect is the court system itself. They are extremely back logged which is not a reflection of the attorney. This is beyond a lawyers control. I have and will continue recommending her to those in need of legal counsel.
Great communication and outstanding representation. Kept me informed of all changes and updates with case. The case and representation itself was complicated, being that the divorce was in TN, I currently live in FL and ex-wife had the kids in AK. Ultimately everything worked out. Legal fees did considerably rack up but she did put a lot of time and effort into case over the weeks/months, so nothing that was unexpected. Only issue I had was in court. I realize lawyers have to work with each other frequently and probably have some sort of professional relationship, but there comes a time to take the gloves off and be aggressive. I felt she could have been a little more aggressive, but maybe I’m wrong. She did help me regain custody so it all worked out. She would definitely be my first call if I need legal assistance in the future.
Dorothea represented me several years ago through my divorce, and I got absolutely crushed in the divorce. Most people I've talked to (lawyers included) are shocked at how much I spent on attorney fees with such poor results (as in how much my ex got in the divorce vs what I walked away with). In addition, she did not seem to care one way or another about how the divorce proceedings turned out. If you're in the market for a family law attorney, I would highly suggest that you look elsewhere.
I defiantly agree with the previous post. I was not able to continue with my legal matters because I could not afford another large sum of money. I ended up having to settle the matter before even going to trial. The process was months in the making and drained thousands of dollars from my savings and retirement. I also did not feel like I hired an attorney that was fighting for me concerning my legal issues. Instead I was subject to someone who accepted every delay proposed to her without consulting with me at all. I would recommend you seek out legal assistance from someone else.
Dorothea can blow through thousands of dollars of your retainer in no time with little to no results to show for it. Despite numerous requests to curb costs, I ultimately ended up having to start over with a new attorney. I felt that she was not on my side nor did she have my best interest in mind.
