About

With over ten years' experience working for regulatory agencies of the State of Kansas, I now put my government experience to use by providing administrative defense services for licensees before their respective regulatory boards.  I have experience practicing before the Kansas Board of Healing Arts in the regulation of a multitude of healthcare providers, including physicians, chiropractors, and physician assistants.  During my career with the agency I also had the opportunity to become familiar with the regulation of the practice of nursing by the Kansas Board of Nursing.  Most recently I served as General Counsel to the Office of the State Bank Commissioner which is responsible for regulating state chartered financial institutions to include banks, trust companies, mortgage companies, payday lenders, and debt management companies. In such position I worked closely with federal regulators which had overlapping regulatory authority such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the Federal Reserve Bank.  I have a thorough understanding of the Kansas Administrative Procedures Act and the Kansas Judicial Review Act.  Having the experience as an insider in the governmental agencies, I have the unique practical advantage of established relationships with agency personnel, as well as an understanding of the unwritten protocols and practices.    For the past eleven years I have also served as a Judge Advocate with the Kansas Air National Guard, Air Refueling Wing at Forbes Field located in Topeka, Kansas.  Through my military service I have had the opportunity to advise military members on various civil legal matters ranging from the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, estate planning, probate, landlord tenant issues, and domestic law issues. A focus of my practice is devoted to defending active duty military members in all service branches with administrative matters.  My enjoyment in providing counsel to military clients in general civil matters and estate planning has led me to expand my civilian practice to include these same services for non-military clients as well.
