The distance didn't matter, and I'm all the way in Alabama. They took great care of me. This is my first worker's compensation case, and prayerfully my last. However, I know who to recommend, and who is qualified to handle my case. Thank you Derek Lax and Latoya Griffith y'all are awesome!
I've gone to Derek for a couple workers comp claims. He is very professional, well educated-this guy knows his stuff, always called me personally when he knew I was stressing out. Mr Lax is always thorough and kept me in the loop...which was always appreciated. I always am telling friends and family that if you ever get injured on the job...just call a lawyer. In fact, call Mr Derek Lax. He will inform you and take care of things.
He kept me in the loop.. I know he is busy and if i wasnt able to get in contact with him when i called he always called back or made sure i received information on my case. I feel he always had my best interest at heart. i received all my benefits and once it was late but it was not his fault the insurance company wanted to make it hard for me and he still continued to make sure i received my benefits till i was released and settled my case.
As far as his knowledge on litigating a workman's compensation claim..it may be good since I do believe he puts in good effort, however, he is just not very responsive and therefore, the communication skills are lacking. If I wanted to find out what was going to happen at a hearing and I called a few days prior, I didn't end up hearing from him until various days AFTER the hearing. Emails would go unanswered and I ended up talking to his assistant most of the time. Even when I had specific legal questions I needed to address, he was never available. I do not have unreasonable expectations. I was not expecting to talk to him each day..so his lack of getting back to any of my inquiries was aggravating. He may have the experience to navigate the Workman's Comp field but an attorney that does not maintain open lines of communication is just in my opinion, unacceptable.
