THE LAW OFFICE OF DEBRA L. ACKERMANHELPING OTHERS SINCE 1985In 1979, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in social work; however my passion was always the law. I graduated from Washington College of Law, American University in 1985 and I have devoted myself to providing clients with professional service and attention to each client’s individual needs. After graduating from the Washington College of law in 1985, I became skilled in litigation, working with experienced attorneys, while gaining exposure to a broad range of legal cases, including complex and other civil litigation, all types of family law matters, probate matters, personal injury defense and Plaintiff’s personal injury matters, bankruptcy and criminal defense. In May, 1993, I opened my own law practice, which provided me with the opportunity to assist clients of all means and needs. In 2002, I moved my office from Washington, D.C. to Montgomery County, Maryland, where my law office remains. My law practice is devoted to advocating for individuals and companies, providing individual attention to each client’s needs throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia. My law practice today handles every type of family law matter, including preparation of Marital Settlement (separation and property settlement agreements), divorce, both contested and uncontested , custody, domestic violence, and child support cases; personal injury criminal defense, including assault cases, traffic matters, theft and DWIs, civil litigation, and Will preparation. Debra is THE ONE to hire if you're going through a complicated divorce (or any divorce, really). Long story short, my divorce took 3 years, 3 months and 25 days from start to finish. Debra was with me and for me though it all. My ex-husband went through 4 attorneys by the time it was all said and done. I got the house (I didn't have to sell it or give my ex a dime of the equity), I got the kids, a big monetary award, about 80% of my attorneys fees paid (which means my ex paid my attorney to fight his attorney)... and BEST of ALL ....
