I was recently a guest speaker on Crossroads, a Washington, DC, radio program that focuses on problems faced by people in the criminal justice system. I spoke on how to interact with police if stopped on the street. The best advice that I or any other attorney can give you is to not speak to the police without an attorney present. Be polite, but be firm.
