Mitchell began focusing his practice exclusively on Family Law matters shortly after Lonich & Patton’s Family Law practice was developed. Prior to that, he amassed significant litigation experience handling the firm’s insurance defense, business law and employment law litigation matters as well as handling all of the firm’s appellate practice.Born in Schenectady, NY in 1971, Mitchell grew up in San Jose, graduating from San Jose’s Pioneer High School in 1989. Mitchell then attended UC Santa Barbara where he graduated with a Degree in Economics in 1993. After working in Finance for a few years, he attended law school at Pepperdine University School of Law during which time he secured placement on the Deans Honors List numerous times, earned multiple scholarships, and earned assignments with the Washington D.C. Public Defender's Office, the U.S.D.A. and the U.S. District Bankruptcy Court. Mitchell graduated Cum Laude from Pepperdine in 1998 and then returned to San Jose to begin the active practice of law. When Mitchell isn’t with his family, working or in court, he enjoys hiking, jogging, tennis, cooking, winning swimming races in his backyard pool, and playing guitar.Mitchell is very aware of the fact that he practices in a field in which, quite often, his clients and their children are in the midst of an emotionally stressful and financially difficult situation, where their futures seem uncertain and making decisions can be difficult. Accordingly, relying on his thorough understanding of the law, his extensive trial and litigation background and his experience handling such sensitive matters, he endeavors to offer his clients his valuable experience, counsel and advice in not only the many complicated legal issues they face, but also the short term and long term impacts of their decisions on themselves, their children and their financial lives. Mitchell always provides his clients with timely and detailed attention, along with a clear goal-oriented approach to their issues. Further, drawing on his Economics Degree and his experience in finance, Mitchell has a keen ability to analyze and explain in plain English, the many complicated financial issues that Family Law matters so often entail.   Recognizing both the emotional and exceeding high financial toll that can be associated with prolonged litigation, Mitchell seeks to avoid needless litigation and he focuses his efforts on reaching settlements and informal resolutions whenever possible. However, when a reasonable settlement that serves his client’s best interest cannot be reached, he draws upon his strong litigation and trial skills to obtain favorable outcomes to the myriad of issues facing his clients.Mr. Ehrlich is a member of the State Bar of California, the Santa Clara Bar Association and the State and Local Bar Family Law Sections. He engages in many professional activities including serving as Judge Pro Tem for the Santa Clara County Family Court and serving as an Arbitrator for the Santa Clara County Bar Association's Attorney Client Fee Disputes Division. Mitchell is extremely knowledgeable and experienced and thus extremely sought after. Therefore Mitchell does delegate tasks to other associates and one shouldn't expect to be working solely with Mitchell, but instead him and his team. Being that this (divorce and custody) was a very delicate and new situation for me, I opted to go with a smaller firm for a more one on one experience. However, if the team approach isn't an issue for you, Mitchell is highly recommended.

Brilliant is the word and let me explain the ways. I chose Mitch after reading his profile. What caught my attention was that he volunteers as a Family Practice judge. I told myself then that Mitch would know "what's gonna go and what's not gonna go" hence, that would not only save me time, but more importantly, money. I was right. From day one, I remember questions were asked quickly and I was answering alertly. That one hour went fast and yet, I left Mitch's office feeling relieved and hopeful. Most of all, I left his office feeling it would be worth the retainer because I found a lawyer who would fight for me and who would have my back. Fight for me, he did. On our first and only court appearance, I saw brilliance at work. Succinctly, but clearly, he explained to me what was going to happen and what he would ask for on my behalf. They all sounded great to me. Not only it sounded great, but it also looked great when the presiding judge looked at me with compassion and a gentle smile from his seat. I knew then, we were winning. Mitch confirmed that we got what we asked for- my temporary spousal support and child support retroactively. We also had a 50/50 child custody for our son who was a minor then. The judge also ordered my spouse to pay me $15,000 to help out with my retainer and so on and so forth. The only thing we didn't get was for my former husband to pay in full our son's remaining 2 years of tuition in a private high school. I could understand that as a fair judgment because after all, our son had a very good child support. However, my ex-husband was still ordered to pay our son's tuition for the last half of his sophomore year. When we left the courthouse, I felt relief once again, but ten times more. Just imagine 3/4 of the world being lifted from your back. Moving forward with my case, during all those stomach churning and stressful conferences, I continued to watch Mitch work in an efficient manner- quite organized and methodical, weeding out the potential nays and injecting the sure-shot yeses, hence, saving time and money. Mitch always showed up except for one time which he sent his very capable assistant attorney because of a trial. That meeting was also a success. He also always showed up on time, just being a few minutes late sometimes. I should say it was very well within reason to which I am thankful for knowing that he is an active and well-sought out lawyer. Anyway, there were other things that he asked for on my behalf, but too lengthy to mention. I have to say though, that I don't remember losing any of them. From still being covered by a very good medical insurance until the final judgment to being paid half of our family dog's expenses, and everything in between, Mitch delivered. Before the Final Judgement, Mitch was at work again. He got me the additional spousal support and child support that my ex-husband still owed me. With the Final Judgement being signed and Mitch signing off, I felt relieved once more, but this time, with finality. With my retirement years not too long from now, the permanent spousal support, among other things, that Mitch won for me will help me tremendously. I remember my ex-husband promising then that his potential profession as a radiologist would help "us" in "our" retirement years. I didn't know I was going to be alone during those years. However, the financial help will be there to keep me company. This is where I thank God for leading me to Mitch as my lawyer. This is also where I thank Mitch and his caring staff as well, especially Fabiana. Thank you Mitch for not just being a brilliant lawyer, but also putting a shine on professionalism and work ethics. Thank you again for fighting for me and having my back. THANK YOU SO MUCH, Mitch. Just imagine the whole world being lifted from my back. I wish you, your wife, and children all the best. God bless you. Once again, thank you.

I hired Mitchell to help resolve a number of fairly complex issues that came up regarding my initial marriage settlement that was done with another attorney. The prior attorney was a nice guy but ultimately was sloppy in his work which resulted in a number of ambiguities in the original agreement which surfaced after the agreement was signed. Mitchell very quickly and efficiently reviewed the initial case and settlement, and in a very professional manner recognized numerous deficiencies in the prior agreement and worked in a very collaborative fashion with me to suggest modifications and potential methods of negotiation which we could employ in driving the development of a comprehensive follow on stipulation that would put all of the open issues to bed once and for all. While Mitchell clearly represented my interests in these discussions, he did so in a manner that was both professional and fair, recognizing that any negotiation will ultimately require give and take on both sides. Over the course of approximately eighteen months, Mitchell consistently represented my interests in a very professional manner, with a resulting stipulation recently signed which was balanced and reasonable, and was done in an extremely cost efficient manner. I would absolutely recommend Mitchell for anyone who is looking for a family law professional who is honest and extremely capable.

If you are looking for an elite, top of the class family lawyer, try Mitchell Ehrlich in Lonich & Patton San Jose. My husband hired one of the most aggressive law firms and kidnapped our daughter to start a divorce. Most lawyers didn’t want to deal w/ that notoriously aggressive law firm. Mitch was not intimidated by them at all. He immediately saw through the lies in husband’s claims and promptly started an emergency screening process, then got my daughter back to me! I’m forever grateful for Mitch getting the justice done. Mitch seems to also have a strong network in the legal community in Santa Clara county and is familiar w/ other lawyers and judges. He is well known for his knowledge in family law and even his opponent called him an “excellent family lawyer.” Perhaps some day he may become a judge or politician himself. He is however super busy as all well-known lawyers are, so you may need to try your luck whether he has time accepting your case.

Mr. Ehrlich has helped me on a difficult divorce case. I received excellent advice and representation from him, both on the financial issues and on the custodial issues. From day one, he had great insight on the critical matters in the case. He understood my goals, helped me set the right expectations, successfully diffused DV-related attacks, and obtained the custody that I was seeking. Mitchell Ehrlich was able to sort through many attacks from our opponents, especially at the onset of the case. Thanks to his advice, I can see that all the right decisions were made and at the right time. Although the case was lengthy, it was not by his fault but rather because of our often unreasonable opponent. Specifically on my case, Mitchell Ehrlich: - prevented the move-away of the mother with our young child - obtained dismissal of TRO and withdrawal of DV trial from our opponent - obtained immediate 47/53 custody - prevailed at custody trial, obtaining 50/50 custody - avoided trial on highly contested separation of property - prevailed at custody trial, obtaining my school choice for child Finally, Mitchell Ehrlich works fast; his productivity is enormous.

I retained Mitchell about 6 years ago in a child custody case and continue to consult him with custody modifications. He is exceptionally realistic and objective. A combination of his responsiveness, background and vast knowledge of family law and court system, has provided me with comfort during stressful custody settlements. The office is centrally located and the staff has always been professional and helpful. I highly recommend Mitchell.

A combination of his responsiveness, background and vast knowledge of family law and court system, has provided me with comfort during stressful custody settlements. The office is centrally located and the staff has always been professional and helpful. I highly recommend Mitchell.
