About
Established in 1994.After six years as a criminal prosecuting attorney, I joined a prominent family law firm for three years and then decided to open my own practice. Since then I have been privileged to represent a wide spectrum of quality clients, including court appointments on behalf of children and abused women. I have shared a professional suite since 1996 with Gazzola & Hull, another strong family law firm, providing complete independence with the benefits of a firm environment.I was born and raised in Oregon, graduated from Haverford College (1981) and University of Utah College of Law with Honors (1985). I started my legal career as prosecuting attorney in Tucson, Arizona (1985-1990) before coming home to Oregon. I served as Deputy District Attorney in Multnomah County (1990-1991) before joining as a trial attorney with Stahancyk, Gazzola and Gearing (1991-1994). I have enjoyed private practice since1994, and currently have cases in Washington, Multnomah, Clackamas, Marion, Polk, and Columbia Counties. I enjoy helping good people through sometimes tough passages and getting them good results.

Dan has provided superb counsel for me for over a dozen years for various issues. In the emotional, sensitive arena of family law he is extremely fair - not a shark. It's a testament to his effectiveness that, after my divorce was final, my ex-husband recommended Dan to one of his best friends when he needed an attorney for his divorce. I have referred many people to Dan and all have been grateful to have had his representation.
Mr. Peters was a vital person for me during the toughest time in my life. He gave me excellent advice and answered all of my questions. He made recommendations to me that he truly felt were best for my case. Most of all, he listened to me and assured me that "I was the boss" and what I decided to do in the case was my decision. He was very kind, knowledgable and professional. I recommend him 100 percent.
I’ve known Dan for 15+ years. He was my counsel in the past, and more recently, has represented my 2nd wife. We've seen him work effectively in negotiations and in the courtroom, including a lengthy and successful custody trial. All of our experience with Dan is in the family law/domestic relations area. Dan is an experienced, ethical, and effective attorney. He has solid analytical-thinking skills. His writing skills are impeccable. He is credible in the courtroom, but tries to settle things first if at all possible. He stays centered and is good at separating the salient issues from pesky annoyances that can bog down a client. He is very pragmatic. One thing that's worked well for us is Dan's willingness to collaborate. He will work with clients who want to help with some of the detail work, which can save money. Dan works alone, with one paralegal assisting him. He is not part of a big, high-overhead office. At times, when focusing on another case, it has been difficult reaching Dan for an update. But this is a double-edged sword because he has lower overhead, and you always know who is handling your case. Plus, it means he can keep his hourly rates down. When it's "showtime", Dan is he is totally on his game. We have been privileged to know and work with Dan Peters over the years. He is not only a standout family law attorney, but also a very likable and fair person.
