Consulted this attorney. Knowledgeable, helpful, and made a complex issue much clearer for me.
I expressed my goals at the onset of our initial meeting and all during the collaborative divorce proceedings. My primary concern was continually relegated to a wait and see approach with the opposing attorney. All this did was cause me to waste senseless amounts of money on legal fees with nothing resulting to my satisfaction. I was willing to collaborate on an assortment of other less significant issues which always seemed to be more paramount to the opposing side. What was accomplished in 5 sessions could easily have been done in 2.
He represented me in my divorce, and I cannot think of a worse experience. He charged me while we were chatting informally (not about my case), without notifying me of that. I probably spent close to $10,000 for no legal advice whatsoever, not realizing it until he gave me my final bill. During the trial, he caved in to whatever opposing counsel demanded and did not defend me in any way. I even tried to suggest certain things he could say in my defense, and he refused to state these in the hearing. Example: My ex-wife had her wedding ring appraised at $20,000, then her attorney said it was only worth $2500 (which was clearly ridiculous and unfounded). Daniel protested very meekly, so we ended up at $7500, A good attorney would have submitted the appraisal as evidence and insisted on the amount indicated. If you want a lawyer who will actually do his job with purpose and energy, Daniel Kennedy is not the right choice.
Attorney indicated that he would take my case, keeping costs down. Paid initial retainer of $6500. Then proceeded to pad bill by charging for extensive number of emails sent. Rather then picking up a phone and having a 5-10 minute conversation, he preferred to go back and forth via email, billing $70 for every email allegedly sent, and there were many. He is verbose and also wastes a lot of billable time telling stories of previous cases. Not at all supportive or encouraging. Numerous times it felt like he was working for the other side. Clueless as to toll a family law case takes on the family. Not suited for family law, as he is definitely in it for the money and will drag things out, unnecessarily, to keep billing the client.
