About

My law practice is limited to estate planning, Elder Law and real estate matters.  We are happy to refer potential clients with needs for legal advice in areas in which we do not have expertise to other attorneys in our area who can provide the type of legal advice that is required.  I am certified as an Elder Law Attorney (CELA) by the National Elder Law Foundation as part of its Charter Class in 1995.  I was re-certified in 2000 and 2005.  This certification was issued under the certification guidelines of the American Bar Association and indicates that I have demonstrated proficiency in the practice areas of Elder Law, including estate planning, probate and trust administration, estate taxation, and Medicaid planning.  The Washington State Supreme Court does not recognize the certification of specialties in the practice of law, and certification is not a requirement to practice law in the State of Washington.  R.P.C. Rule 7.4(d)(3). Estate planning matters include Federal and State Estate Tax planning, as well as preparation estate planning documents:  Wills, trusts, Community Property Agreements, powers of attorney, Health Care Directives and other related documents.  It also includes probate and trust administration proceedings following death.  Elder Law matters include strategies to avoid dissipation of assets for long-term care expense (Medicaid planning). Real estate matters include the preparation of deeds and other conveyances and mortgages, preparation of purchase and sale agreements ("earnest money agreements") and escrow and closing of simple real estate transactions. For simple non-taxable estates, we charge a flat fee of not more than $600 for preparation of all of the following estate planning documents:  Wills (including a support trust for minor children), Community Property Agreement, Health Care Directive and Power of Attorney. For more complex taxable estates, the fee will be based upon the time that it takes.  My hourly billing rate is $300. Fees for Elder Law and real estate matters will vary widely depending upon the needs of the individual case, and are generally billed at my regular hourly billing rate of $300.
