About
Daniel’s practice focuses on the trial of complex civil matters (and, by the way, we call him “Danny”). His creative and insightful approach to the presentation of evidence at trial provides invaluable assistance to clients facing litigation. Danny is a sought-after speaker and frequent lecturer on topics common to civil trials including the presentation of expert testimony, trial advocacy, and advanced evidence related topics. Danny’s breadth of trial experience developed over a period of two decades representing clients at trial, handling hundreds of evidentiary hearings in California courts. Danny was principal trial counsel in two matters involving significant changes of law in our appellate courts, and his devotion to innovative trial work continues to greatly benefit our clients.Danny’s long association with Scranton Law Firm began in 1990, when he began working as an investigator for the Firm. Danny obtained his Private Investigator’s license and worked closely with some of the best attorneys in California, investigating the claims of people whose lives had been touched by catastrophic injuries. Through his active involvement in the work up of several major cases in the area of personal injury, including roadway construction and employment discrimination cases, Danny developed a singular passion for the practice of law, and he decided to devote the entirety of his education and professional career to helping people. Danny worked his way through school here at our Firm, and during those years, it was not uncommon to see Danny sitting in a conference room at the Firm studying in the evening after spending the mornings at University, and the afternoons assisting firm clients. Thirty years later, Danny brings that same level of passion and commitment to helping Firm clients.A “never was” musician with a love for composition and literature, Danny appears to enjoy spending most of his free time trout fishing, hiking, hunting, and sleeping outdoors in the middle of nowhere, often accompanied by the sounds of Ellington, Zeppelin, Yo Yo Ma, or Drum Corps blaring through his ear pods.Danny maintains membership in multiple bar related professional organizations, frequently lectures on multiple aspects of trial practice, has served as a Judge Pro Tempore in the Solano County Superior Court, and as a Special Master.

Attorney Daniel Cantrell represented me in a extremely complicated divorce case, which involved custody of my daughter, Alimony, child support etc. and on top of that my ex had obtained a Domestic violence restraining order preventing me from seeing my 8 month old child. At the beginning of my case I was completely lost, hopeless and depressed. Only after Daniel took over my case ( I had another attorney who was doing nothing) I felt that I have a chance to present my innocence and have a fair trial. Daniel at the very first hearing presented the court with facts, and evidence. The way Daniel counter questioned my ex and her brother, they kept getting caught in their own lies. Daniel showed the court on very first day that everything was nothing but bunch of made up stories and lies. (Daniel is very sharp and remembers all the details.) My ex's Attorney was no Match for Daniel (Daniel has excellent knowledge of the law) by the 3rd hearing my ex fired her Attorney and hired a new Attorney, who lasted for one hearing and was fired, then came another one, and another one, By the end of 6 month long trial my ex changed 6 Attorneys, not even one had the knowledge, experience, and skills to match Daniel. In conclusion, The Domestic Violence restraining order was dismissed, my ex and her brother were ordered to show cause for lying to court, the best was that the Judge gave me the custody of my daughter. It wouldn't have been possible without the help of Daniel, he is a great Attorney and a wonderful person by heart!. Daniel knows the Law (he is an expert), he is well respected in the court, and you will often see other Attorney coming him for Advise. If you You want to win your case? Hire Daniel!
I have been working with Daniel now for 2 years. He is excellent. He's got a lot of cases because he is very good, but you have to be patient. You have to pay Dan just like you would any other lawyer, only with Dan you get one of the best trial lawyers in the Bay Area. You can't get anything done with a lawyer who cannot litigate in court, and Dan is always in trial. Practice makes perfect. My spouse's lawyer quit after taking a serious beating from Dan for about a year. She just tucked tail and ran, but I have a feeling this was her M.O. from the beginning. Do yourself a favor and hire this man if you need a real lawyer and were married to a child who can't decide anything for themselves. He won't disappoint you. He is now at Whiting, Fallon, Ross, and Abel in Walnut Creek. Don't make a mistake and hire the wrong attorney. Go watch Dan at trial if you need convincing.
Daniel is very talented and knowledgeable in family law. He has a very good attention to detail and can cite cases and code section off the top of his head. He understands his clients and has great empathy for them. He can't always respond right away as I became aware he is on of the best attorneys and very busy, but when it comes to your trial or hearing daye he knows his stuff and is always prepared.
The "bad" (not really bad, but things that might concern you at first) - Daniel can seem unresponsive sometimes and occasionally had to be nudged to keep me in the loop. I have found, however, that this is not uncharacteristic of the industry, having dealt with several lawyers. They are all working heavy case loads and have to juggle numerous clients with many thousands of details. He can also seem a little "slick" in his manner but that's really just a product of his mind working at light speed and his enthusiasm for his work. He is a consummate professional in the court room, easily making the other lawyer look like kind of a putz. The good - Wow, what a recall on this guy. I fed him reams of information about my case (ALWAYS do the homework for your lawyer, nobody cares more about your case or knows more about it than you do) and he was able to sit there in court and hit the other side with fact after fact and point after point. He utterly demolished the other lawyer, and KILLED their expert, a man who teaches how to be an expert witness. The judge clearly agreed in manner and outcome. I almost felt bad for the other team, almost. Heh, heh! Realize that you're not really going to get his full attention until he needs to focus on you, and then it is a laser like focus that burns right to the heart of the matter and hits all the important points immediately. Sitting in court I was amazed at his recall and his stringing a narrative along that demolished the other team's points one by one, and from multiple angles. The judge agreed, and her opinion basically rejected everything my ex wife was trying to assert. Bottom line: you are getting an amazing lawyer here, one who comes out of nowhere and is super prepared to win your case. Don't get discouraged when you aren't getting updates all of the time. Set up a phone consult if you need to. I had to work with him from overseas and his staff was always very helpful in setting up phone meetings and he always was able to talk me down and answer all of the questions that were keeping me up at night, usually so quickly that I couldn't believe the meeting was over! Also, do you homework and study the law and your case yourself. Develop well thought out attacks on all of your ex-spouse's points. He won't necessarily use your ideas verbatim, but that information all goes into that bear trap brain of his and will come out in the format and time it needs to, to do the most damage to the "enemy"! Daniel can be super-focused on many things at once and it is easy to become worried that he has dismissed you or your case, but he's just multitasking. Trust me, when the time comes, he is there and ready to kill giants for you, probably at a fraction of the cost of what the other side is paying. That being said, I would highly recommend taking one of his flat fee options. I was a little hesitant at first, but he more than gave me my money's worth and I didn't have to count every minute of his time as money spent. ps - That picture totally doesn't look like him to me.
Mr. Cantrell was hired on my case after dealing with a prior attorney that churned up unecessary fees and over litigated my case for a couple of years. I hired Mr. Cantrell and he reviewed my file and learned it so well that I finally had a complete handle on my case and what was going on..unlike the other attorney who confused me everytime i walked into his office. Daniel saved me a lot of money with his knowledge, intelligence and directness of his facts to opposing counsel and to the judge. I would highly reccommend him and I was referred to him by several friends and have since learned that over a dozen of my friends have hired him and have been completely satisfied with his work.

My ex's Attorney was no Match for Daniel (Daniel has excellent knowledge of the law) by the 3rd hearing my ex fired her Attorney and hired a new Attorney, who lasted for one hearing and was fired, then came another one, and another one, By the end of 6 month long trial my ex changed 6 Attorneys, not even one had the knowledge, experience, and skills to match Daniel.
