About

I am a personal injury trial lawyer with the experience, skills and demeanor to win your case. Born in the same Memphis, TN hospital where Elvis died, I am the oldest of three boys born to a Presbyterian minister and a high school English teacher. I have lived the majority of my life in Louisville, Kentucky, graduating from Louisville Male High School, the University of Kentucky, and the University Of Louisville School Of Law.My legal training began before I started law school when I clerked for two years for a mid-sized, general practice law firm in downtown Louisville. I saw first-hand how difficult it was for a firm to try to do a little bit of everything, from drafting contracts and wills to handling divorce and custody to tackling personal injury and criminal defense. It also taught me how important it is for the attorneys and staff in an office to have a mutual respect for and cooperate with each other. While still in law school, I was hired as a law clerk for a prestigious firm that specialized in handling only personal injury cases. Upon graduating law school at U of L in 2000, I was hired as an associate attorney at the firm and had the great benefit of learning at the feet of some of the greatest and most successful trial lawyers in the state. Because I knew Louisville was the city where I would hang my legal shingle, and had a desire to work both sides of the Ohio River, I took the Kentucky and Indiana bar examinations back to back in the summer of 2000. I was helping a senior partner try a complex medical malpractice case in Ashland, Kentucky in October 2000 when I found out I passed the Indiana bar examination, and I was sworn in to be a lawyer in Kentucky just weeks before assisting in a medical malpractice trial in Butler County, Ohio that same year. I was given great responsibility and almost free range as an associate attorney. I successfully tried my first case to a jury just a year out of law school, and I won a six-figure wrongful death trial by the time I had been a lawyer for two years. By 2003, I had also argued before the Kentucky Court of Appeals and the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. One of the lawyers who was my boss, mentor and friend is David Ewing, whom I became partners with in 2004 when we opened our own firm.As a partner in the law firm, I have accumulated a successful and impressive track record. I have personally resolved well over 700 personal injury cases ranging in severity from “whiplash” to death and from claims spanning car wrecks; medical, legal or nursing home negligence; slip and falls accidents; and defective products cases. I have recovered significant verdicts from juries in every type of case I hold myself out to handle. I have tried real cases in front of real juries in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. Most of the lawyers who advertise personal injury cases have never stepped inside a courthouse and tried a case in front of a jury. How can you expect your case to be taken seriously by large insurance companies and their expensive lawyers when the lawyer you hired has never demonstrated he is a legitimate opponent?Over the past 15 years, I have had a marketing and advertising budget of zero, and 95% of the cases I have handled have arrived as referrals from other lawyers or past clients. I have repeatedly demonstrated that I have the skills and knowledge to successfully handle these cases, and I have consistently demonstrated the ability to obtain impressive results. When dealing with an opponent, you can bet that I will be aggressive, relentless and zealous. However, I am guided by a sense of fair play, and I will maintain courtesy, civility and respect for the opposing side, regardless of our disagreement. I take pride in my standing in the legal, professional, business and civic communities, and I will keep promises and commitments.Although my primary office is located in Louisville, Kentucky, I travel throughout the states of Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia, and I have represented clients in courtrooms throughout these states. I have advocated for clients in more than half of Kentucky’s 120 counties. I have tried cases on behalf of injured everyday people in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.I am proud to announce that in every case where I successfully achieved a jury verdict for my client, all of my verdicts have been multiples of the last offer made by the insurance company. I have repeatedly beaten the odds. For instance, I have handled wrongful death, medical malpractice, slip and fall and auto accident cases where there was zero offer before trial, and the jury made a six-figure award. In fact, the worst multiplier I have had is in a Jefferson County car accident case where the last, best and final offer was $28,000, the last demand by the injured party was $90,000, and the jury awarded $150,000, a multiplier of approximately 5.4 times the last offer made.I am now the managing partner of the law firm Ewing & Willis. In that role, I continue to handle important and severe injury cases while also guaranteeing that the team operates as seamlessly as possible to provide you with the best results. We have carefully assembled a team that is second to none. You can expect that everyone who works on your case will be competent. Our energetic and personable staff is talented, well-trained, polite and hard working. They are sensitive to your needs and concerns. We enjoy a positive work environment and function as a cohesive and confident team, which helps us obtain winning results for you on a consistent and cost-efficient basis. In 2001, I married Melissa, and we have two children, both boys, Jackson, age nine, and Wyatt, age six. In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family and friends. We spend an incredible amount of time transporting our children to St. Matthews Little League, Upward and Hoops basketball and YMCA Soccer and participating in local outdoor events like the Kentucky Derby mini marathon and the Mayor’s Hike & Bike. I look forward to seeing you out in the community!
