Cricket Tryon – BackgroundCricket graduated from Indiana University at Indianapolis where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Cricket subsequently pursued a career in broadcast news, working for WISH-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana; WHEC-TV and WUHF-TV in Rochester, New York; and, finally, for KGTV in San Diego. While in broadcast news, Cricket worked for every major network affiliate, including ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, as well as doing freelance work for CNN, ESPN and others. In New York, Cricket also acted as a legal editor for The Daily Messenger.Cricket later chose to pursue the study of Law, receiving her Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law. Cricket was admitted to the State Bar of California in 2007 and then to the United States District Court, Southern District of California in 2008.For nearly twelve years prior to joining Schaffer Family Law Group, Cricket established and operated a private practice, where she focused almost exclusively in family law. Cricket has a down-to-earth approach, realizing that family law matters are so life-changing that it would be a mistake to overlook the very real and personal ramifications it has on people’s lives.Cricket Tryon – Giving Back to San DiegoCricket’s dedication to helping people manifests in her experience. She volunteered as an advocate for victims of domestic violence through the YWCA of San Diego, where she helped many families who she often found to have no resources and no one to turn to, and with whom she worked to see that they were protected from their abusers while getting back on their feet.Additionally, Cricket has been a referring attorney for the American Bar Association’s Military Pro Bono Program and has acted as a volunteer attorney for legal clinics in San Diego, including Operation Stand Down, providing no-cost assistance to homeless military veterans.Cricket grows and harvests her hair, donating it to Wigs for Kids as soon as it reaches the fourteen inches the program requires. Cricket likes to believe that the many braids she donated over the past 10 years have made a difference in the lives of children who lost their hair due to medical issues.In law school Cricket had the opportunity to study at the Irish Center for Human Rights, part of the National University of Ireland, where her coursework focused on International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. Cricket traveled to Anchorage, Alaska to attend climate summits, authoring a paper in International Environmental Law and the effects of climate change on indigenous people in the Arctic Circle. She has also been published in the Journal of Biolaw & Business.Cricket’s other interests include being an avid sailor, enchanted with all things sailing and the sea. She is registered with the International Sailing Federation, is a member of U.S. Sailing and Cortez Racing Association and earned her Merchant Mariner’s Credential from the United States Coast Guard.
