About
Growing up in Oklahoma, I was frequently invovled with children and education. Apart from the usual babysitting, I was also very involved helping with my mother's first grade classroom. I attended Booker T. Washington High School, which is a nationally recognized magnet school. After graduation, I attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with an associated minor in Philosophy from UNM. I began attending the University of Denver College of Law in 2000, from which I received my Juris Doctorate in 2003.I did not take the traditional path to becoming an attorney, however. After graduating from the University of Denver I moved to Dillon, Colorado. Prior to becoming a dedicated family law attorney, I was a children's snowboard instructor for Breckenridge Ski Resort for four years. I returned to Denver in 2008 to briefly work for a personal injury firm. I did not find that personal injury was a good fit for me. I began doing intern work for Colorado Legal Services/Metro Volunteer Lawyers in 2009. This is where I received my introduction to family law. I began working for myself in 2010 and have not looked back. I truly am dedicated to helping people through their divorces, custody issues and all other aspects that involve family law. The cases are seldom easy from an emotional standpoint. Being a mother, myself, to three young children I understand the heartache that can result from having to share custody of your children. However, I also understand the importance of having both parents being invloved in the children's lives. I offer caring and zealous representation and promise to never stop doing my very best for Colorado families.

Colleen was great to work with, very knowledgeable, professional and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend her to anyone who needs a good family lawyer. Thanks again Colleen!!
You'd be hard pressed to find a more dedicated, knowledgeable, honest attorney than Colleen. She is the one person you want in your corner fighting for you in some of the most difficult situations attorneys have to navigate. She has been very help in a Family case that I've had to deal with over the last year or so. I would definitely recommend Colleen to anyone that has Family Court issues to fight.
Incredibly professional and private. Treated myself and my family with respect, dignity and professionalism. I would recommend to anyone, without hesitation
I'm so grateful for Colleen. I had an especially unpleasant experience with my child custody case. I owe every moment I get to continue to spend with my daughter to Colleen. She fought hard for me, answered phone calls at 9 pm on a Sunday, and never backed down. I'm so grateful for her.
Colleen represented me during my divorce and now with taking my ex back to court for contempt. I was put through the ringer with lies and accusations, having the police called on me and much more. I was a mess, I wanted to quit and just give in. Colleen wouldn't let me, she was right there with me the whole time. Day or night I could call or text her and she would always answer. I was so prepared, Colleen explained how everything was going to go and what to expect. I know that when I call Colleen with one of my many what if's she won't just tell me what I want to hear. She will give me her honest opinion. Thank you for everything!
If I ever have a family law question or concern, I know that I can always go to Colleen for the best advice. As a fellow attorney, I need to be able to rely on what I'm told as I handle my own cases. With Colleen, I always get a reliable answer that I know I can take to the bank. That's the sort of expertise we all need whenever we seek the help of a lawyer, especially in something as personal as family issues.
Colleen as shown me the type of professionalism yet personalism every person wants when your in a position that is less than comfortable. Colleen as stood by my side through some very difficult times and as always been extremely diligent and methodical in her approach towards our battles. I can not recommend her enough to all my family and friends. Thank you as always Colleen! Kevin Byerly
Just a BIG thank you for being such a great attorney on my divorce case. It was just great how when I said Please don't let me walk out of court with nothing. You made sure that I didn't even if he did make big money and an Attorney that was just cruel to me and tried to make me look like a bad person case I had an education and he only went though the 10th grade. Just a Big thank you for all you have done for me. It just goes to show you that if, a person gives their Attorney (Colleen McCoy) the information and all the proof to go with it that you will come out on top, at least in my book. All the friends that I have given your name to and that you have helped I thank you for that too. Thank you, Anna
Colleen is efficient, knowledgable, and friendly. She did an amazing job in my custody hearing and I would highly recommend her to anyone needing help in regards to family law.
I hired Colleen for a divorce, and during the initial consultation I was told everything I wanted to hear in order for her to get my retainer, then it all went downhill from there. I do not think it is ethical for attorneys to make false promises to clients, and have no accountability for poor performance. Colleen was never on time for a single appointment we arranged, and it was clear that she took on more cases than she could handle to maximize her revenue, even as it diminished the quality of her legal work. I would go into hearings having no idea what was going on, as there was inadequate or no preparation at all. In the end, I was coerced into a settlement agreement I did not want to sign, with Colleen complaining beforehand about collecting more attorneys fees, and her not wanting to do a full day hearing. You'd honestly be better off representing yourself.
