My husband and I hired Mr. Smith after being involved in an auto accident that left us with long-term effects sustained from head injuries. We were impressed by his thorough, strategic, approach to our case, and particularly with his experience on TBI's (Traumatic Brain Injuries). We deeply appreciate Mr. Smith's professionalism and the personal consideration he showed to us. He has helped us make the best of bad situation. We strongly recommend him.
Attorney Smith represented me for several years in an unfriendly corporation breakup which included, among other things, the disposition of Intellectual Property. He proved to be a quick study. We were opposed by a well known Boston law firm, now defunct. Better them than us. He brings a wealth of experience which lets him present you with a range of options, but he won't try to decide for you what you have to decide for yourself. Obviously, I was a happy client.
For the last three decades I have been in a business that sometimes requires complicated and difficult litigation. It is simply the nature of this business. We have always prevailed both in local courts and Federal Court. A very significant victory happened for an elderly friend who was in a severe car crash. Mr. Smith negotiated a settlement that was beyond any expectations.
I was sued for breach of contract by a shady character looking for a shakedown payment. Attorney Smith calmed me down, analyzed the documents and won the case on a summary judgment motion.
Colin Smith has provided excellent help for me in two very different matters. One time was when our home heating oil tank ruptured, spilling 200 gallons of oil onto our property. The delivery company apparently filled it improperly, but they removed the tank and destroyed it (without our permission) before we could diagnose the problem. We had to pay $70,000 for the state-monitored clean-up. Unfortunately our home-owners insurance policy explicitly excluded coverage for this kind of accident. Our only recourse was the delivery company. It’s a mom-and-pop operation with minimal insurance. After a careful investigation, Mr. Smith advised us that although we had a strong case legally, collecting a judgment would be difficult and could take years. Instead he negotiated a settlement that covered much of our loss, and did so at far less expense to us. I turned to him again for help on another problem. For a number of years I received an avalanche of harassing phone calls and letters from a person I barely knew. Many mornings my office voice mail would be clogged with dozens of hostile messages. Several other people I knew were having the same problem. Rather than have me to go to court on my own, Mr. Smith discovered that a local institution was seeking a restraining order against this person for similar reasons. He had me join that suit, which gave my complaints more weight with the judge (and perhaps with the person, as well). Ever since the judge issued his order almost ten years ago, there hasn’t been one single call, email, or letter. I’m impressed with Mr. Smith’s sound judgment and keen understanding of the legal system. He was prepared to go to full trial in both cases, but he found ways to solve serious problems more quickly (and at much less cost). I recommend him very highly.
