About
Chris Phipps is an associate in the firm's Reno office. Mr. Phipps was admitted to the State Bar of Nevada in 1989 and to the District of Columbia Bar in 1990. Initially, Mr. Phipps worked in Las Vegas as an attorney for the Executive Committee of Plaintiffs, The Subrogated Carriers on the mass-tort case In re: May 4, 1988 Fire Litigation involving the PEPCON fire and explosion in Henderson, Nevada. He later worked as insurance defense counsel for numerous carriers defending automobile, premises, professional lines, and construction defect claims. In 2000, Mr. Phipps relocated to Reno where, for the last seven years before joining the firm, he practiced as plaintiff's counsel in the areas of auto, premises, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and workers compensation claims.Mr. Phipps graduated from the University of Utah in 1986 with a B.S. degree in Political Science and an emphasis in Public Administration. He received his J.D. degree from the University of Utah College of Law in 1989, where he also earned an American Jurisprudence Award in Contracts and was a semi-finalist in the Roger J. Traynor Moot Court Competition.Mr. Phipps is a member of the State Bar of Nevada, District of Columbia Bar, and Washoe County Bar Association. He has been admitted to practice in several federal jurisdictions including the Supreme Court of the United States in 1992.Mr. Phipps also has extensive experience in the "outdoor recreation and adventure sports" market. He has personal experience in skydiving, sailing, skiing, paddling, diving, rock and ice climbing. He has served on the ski patrol for a Lake Tahoe ski resort and operated a white water rafting concern in the Sierra Nevada. He actively teaches recreational and technical scuba diving in the Lake Tahoe area. He is an EMS instructor and a Nevada licensed EMT-II. Since 2004, he has served as a team leader, swiftwater rescue and public safety dive instructor for the Washoe County Sheriff's Hasty Team (responsible for technical search and rescue in northern Nevada). Mr. Phipps practices in the defense of professional licensing, tort, products liability, construction defect, outdoor recreation and adventure sports claims.
