About

Chad Groover, a native South Carolinian, is the managing partner at Upstate Elder Law, P.A. He practices in the areas of estate planning, long term care and disability planning, probate administration, guardianship and conservatorship actions, and special needs trusts.Prior to his work with Upstate Elder Law, Chad had a general litigation practice for five years in Greenville. Before coming back home to South Carolina in 2008, he spent two years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as a Special Assistant United States Attorney (SAUSA). As a federal prosecutor, Chad prosecuted federal narcotics and firearms cases. He joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office after spending five years in Washington, D.C. as Counsel on the United States Senate Judiciary Committee, Subcommittee on Crime. In that role he advised Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) on constitutional, criminal, and anti-terrorism policy, as well as whistleblower protection and federal government oversight. After law school, Chad worked for the National Law Center for Children and Families (NLC) in Fairfax, VA. As Legal Counsel at NLC, he focused on issues related to the protection of children and women on the internet. In 2000, he also served as staff counsel to Commissioner J. Robert Flores on the congressionally-commissioned Child Online Protection Act Commission.In 1998, Chad graduated from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University with a Juris Doctorate and from Bob Jones University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in English. Chad is married to Gwen L. Groover and they have two children, Ava and Willes. Chad is active in the Greenville community as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Cornerstone Baptist Church. In 2013, he was elected as Chairman of the Greenville County Republican Party. Chad is also actively engaged in the legal community. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the Virginia State Bar, the Greenville County Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Greenville Estate Planning Council, and Upstate Senior Network. Chad currently serves on the South Carolina Bar Elder Law Committee and is a board member of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
