During BOA short-sale, my RE broker needed her to close and prepare docs. Without ever calling me or emailing me first, her assistant, sent me a retainer for 1500. The assistants email address as well as her phone number and ext are linked to a bus company where she has a separate job, so you aren't calling or emailing to a law office and you are sending a lot of info in. Assistant told me I was responsible to pay and not BOA. I told her I would find another lawyer and she told me she already started working on my file. I reminded her that I had never signed any agreement or had any discussion. I called BOA and they agreed to pay Lawyer 750. Considering the sale is cash and 13K that seemed reasonable. Called 4 other lawyers one quoted 1000, 2 said 750 and one said 600. When I told the actual attorney I'd look elsewhere, she stated shed rather get 750 than nothing. At closing she never uploaded the POA so it closed next business day. 3 days later, I have no paperwork, though attorney emailed me on Monday and stated she would "fed ex " me docs and check. 3 days later no docs. . No response to email or call for 24 hours. Called from a different phone and she answered. She stated she never said she would fed ex it and she just stuck it in the mail because she should have made 1500 and she only made 750. She couldn't understand why I asked her for a tracking number. My RE agent pretends to be horrified by all this but they must do transactions together as that's how I met her in the first place. So hopefully my docs and 3k check show up, but I found the bus company email and voicemail combined with her complaining about not making her fee to be offensive.
