Showed up late for appointment. Did not keep me informed, despite numerous follow-up phone calls on my part. I ended up using another attorney, which was a big problem, as my issue was time sensitive. Mr. Sawyer did not deliver as promised. I expect more professional conduct from an attorney.
Mr. Sawyer was made executor ( due to estranged family relations) to my late husbands estate/will which Mr. Sawyer drew up. . A very simple estate plan and forthright will. I met with him the end of January 2014 to start proceedings. Starting leaving messages for him to call me back. It was Tax Season and as he is also a CP that was one of excuses for not returning my calls. I admonished him that it was very unprofessional of him not to return calls, he apologized. This was to no avail as he continued to not return calls, had to write letters or try to catch him at his office which was rare that he was there. Untruth about a court appearance for my husbands car which he left to me. The car has been sitting idle since this spring, battery dead. After leaving a message that I was going to report him to the RI Bar Association, he called me quite upset. He stated that his first priorities ( how he makes a living) is that he is a probate judge in Central Falls and works for three lawyers out of Providence, also does taxes. So I said it was obvious my husbands estate and will wishes were not a priority and that he never told us that. Misrepresenting himself. As of today I am still waiting for the correct documents from Mr. Sawyer required by the RI Division of Motor Vehicles/Title Dept so I can transfer the title. This information plus a letter was sent to Mr. Sawyer by me. The message itemized all required documents was left of Dec. 8,2014 and the letter sent Dec. 20, 2014. Still NOTHING!!
Mr. Sawyer represented my husband in his divorce from his first wife. When my husband and I went to get a loan a few years later, we discovered that the ex-wife had not refinanced the mortgage, as had been discussed. Further review of the divorce settlement showed that the draft agreement had language saying that they ex-wife would refinance, but the DS filed with the courts was missing that language. Because that language is not in the DS, the ex-wife is not in contempt of court. Mr. Sawyer has not responded our calls, emails or certified letters and we have made efforts to reach him for almost 2 years. Now the ex-wife is says she is underwater and is planning a short sale. If he had been a vigilant and detail oriented attorney, skilled in legal language, we would not be in this mess. And Mr. Sawyer remains unreachable. I would strongly encourage anyone needing legal advice to hire someone, anyone else.
