His knowledge of the law is clear, but what set him apart is his ability to distill, creatively synthesize and communicate. Yes, he makes the case well - which I suppose at the end of the day is what matters most - but to do so, he also listens, with what appears to be a goal of understanding, not just placating. Besides being flat-out refreshing, I believe it makes him that much more effective.
