About
Born Brian Joseph Prain, I was raised in the Southeast area of Michigan. I love and enjoy Michigan and plan on making it my permanent home. The first home I remember was in Farmington Hills. By about age thirteen, I had become an accomplished local artist and was enjoying my friends and social network when all of a sudden my parents decided to move the family to a small sleepy town... 'South Lyon. ' I remember the move being tough and uncomfortable as I left many good friends and good times behind. I struggled finding my new footing as I began the process of starting over again. Academically, I have always distinguished myself throughout Grade School, High School and while attending Michigan State University. After graduating MSU with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science/Prelaw, I applied for and accepted an academic scholarship to attend Michigan State University College of Law (formerly the Detroit College of Law, a school of much local acclaim). While attending Law School, I supplemented my education with many Court related activities, including defending the accused while working with the Washtenaw County Office of Public Defender, and fighting for the "Little Guy" at the Law Offices of Shelton & Associates, PLLC. It was there where I had the chance to experience everything from working with clients, to writing lengthy briefs to the Court of Appeals, to spending time in Court watching the process and my associates at work within the legal system. It soon became obvious to me...Trial Law was my calling. Working hard and constantly observing, I learned that to be a great lawyer and to truly be successful, you need to be the person 'calling the shots' and organizing the process - not the passive attorney playing it safe within the rules of protocol at some fancy-named law firm. Getting through Law School was challenging, but in the end I achieved excellent grades, received a valuable education, and (equally important), earned the respect and admiration of both my professors and my peers. Shortly after graduating from Law School, I passed the Michigan Bar Exam (on my first try) and instantly The Law Office of Brian J. Prain, PLLC was born. Throughout my entire life I have always been a champion for the underdog. Perhaps because often, as a child, I was the underdog. At age seven, I was much smaller than others my age. My parents, worried that my being physically smaller than my peers might negatively affect me, decided to enroll me into a martial arts program. My parents believed emphatically in "standing up for one's self'"and always encouraged and supported me to do my best and make my mark... regardless of any challenges life threw my way. They instinctively knew that if I could become highly effective and confident at defending myself, I would not suffer from low self-esteem. And so, with raw determination, I pressed on perfecting my martial arts skills and soon became the youngest Black Belt recipient in the statewide association. Happily, I also found myslef the frequent winner of many Martial Arts contests, often defeating trained opponents... much larger than I. Those early lessons taught me that to overcome obstacles it was much more important to throughly prepare and completely understand and define the challenge before me. Then, and only then, can one determine the best path for the desired outcome. Another benefit I gained from my martial arts study was disipline, a charactistic which has remained a core pillar in my ability to achieve high degrees of performance and execution. That discipline, coupled with my strong sense of belief and commitment, have helped to guide my law practice each and everyday. Winning begins with belief and ends with committment. Focused on my natural talents and abilities, I drew upon my determination to be the best of breed in all my endevers. I remained laser focused on my objectives. I always do what I say I'm going to do. My practice is 100% Criminal Defense, focusing on Assault and Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) cases. I don't represent big business. Rather, I'm commited to fighting for the everyday residents of Main Street; the "Little Guy." I kow what it means to struggle - that's why I know that to truly win for you I can give nothing less than my very best efforts. I Basically walked out of school and into the Court room. When you go at it that way, you learn some things that many lawyers never learn throughout their entire careers. Albeit a young practice, I have already had many clients personally thank me for the intense level of work product I generated for their case, as well as for sticking my neck out and standing up to the system for them. That is my promise to you... and for good reason... it's in my DNA. I can't help but do it every time. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to earn your business.

I met Brian when I was in desperate need of help. My case was dragged out for a couple years until we finally fought in trial. In my case we would end up with a shocking guilty jury convict. I just finished several years of prison time and am trying to restart my life. I have never doubted that Brian provided the best defense I could find. Even now as I try to restart my life having been through the ringer of much media attention to try and label me, I have never wished I hired another attorney for trial. I consider Brian my friend and the legal world needs more attorneys who fight like Brian Prain. God bless you Brian.
Brian was flawless from the very start. Before finding Brian, I had talked to multiple other attorneys who couldn't even give me more than a few minutes of their time during the consult before changing completely to talking about money. I knew that Brian was different from the very first phone conversation I had with him. Brian talked with me for an hour and a half about various aspects of my case and what I could expect throughout the process without even mentioning fees. Brian was very responsive and professional during all portions of my case. He always asked for feedback and accommodated my needs. The case ended up going to trial and the result was not guilty on all charges. Both the prosecutor and the judge complemented Brian during the trial. I couldn't have asked for a better attorney than Brian. Even after the case, Brian still checks in and has become a personal friend. I would sincerely recommend Brian if you are looking for an attorney that is professional, responsive, and dedicated to their work. Brian has made an art form out of his work.
Simply put, Brian is savvy lawyer and a forthright, amazing person. I referred a dear friend of mine to him for after he was accused of domestic assault. My friend had already retained a lawyer, but was growing increasingly anxious & frustrated with the lack of communication his lawyer provided. Brian took ample time to speak to my friend about his case, also providing insight into the process & communication to expect when working with a lawyer on an assault case. His candor and professional guidance was exactly what I expected after reviewing his website- he truly is an expert, and it shows.
I contacted Brian for a stalking charge, I reached out to him after talking to a few other lawyers. After the first time of talking to him on the phone, I realized Brian is my best choice. He was very detailed, sincere and straightforward. I hired him to handle my situation, and I knew it was a difficult case. I am not a U.S. citizen so stalking conviction could cost me a lot more than anything I could think of and the situation was not so good for me. Plus, trial could cost me more than that what I had in my budget. Brian seemed to understand all this and subtly handled the situation to the best possible outcome for me at the pretrial stage. The stalking charge was dismissed through a plea bargain to disturbing the peace, with no immigration consequences. I was sentenced a fine as little as 250$ and 1 year probation. For me his legal services went well beyond the fixed cost of pretrial agreement, and even after all this he still helps and guides me through the probation period. He is deeply caring about his clients both at professional and human sympathy levels. Without him my situation could lead to a stalking conviction with unimaginable consequences to my whole life and future, and I am always thankful for him. If you look for a criminal defense lawyer to get the best possible outcome regarding your specific situation, then contact Brian, I really recommend him in that regard.
I had a serious charge and faced significant time in jail, which in turn I would have lost my job, home, and other belongings I work very hard for. Brian whole heartedly believed in my case, fighting against trusted officials. We took my case to a jury trial and we WON not guilty on ALL my charges. His attention to detail and willingness to go against people who are "respected" by most of the general public speaks volumes. He's not afraid to fight for what's right. It was a long 9 months, but Brian had a way to put me at ease and he always kept me informed. I have no regrets hiring Brian and I now consider him a friend of mine. If you want a detail orientated, thorough lawyer who's willing to fight for you and no matter who you are up against, hire Brian Prain.
I hired attorney brian prain after a long research of lawyers in the metro detroit area and after what i remember to be 6 phone calls to other top lawyers around the area, none of them stood out like brian prain. After the phone call with him i knew right away this was my best chance to get the best possible result out of my horrible situation. I was facing up to five years for a third offense domestic violence with petty allegations but being taken so very serious. I know in my heart that the allegations and the statment agenst me were beefed up and for the most part untrue and made up.. No one beleived me but myself and brian prian.. Long story short after a couple sit downs with brian and letting him do his hard work we went to court one time, he walk in to the prosectutors office twenty heart pumping minutes later walked out calm as could be and said so casually "Case dismissed".... 30 minutes and some paperwork later i was standing outside the court with a peice of paper that said charges dismissed, bond money to be refunded and i can finally return back into my house that I own thats in my name only yet i had not been able to step foot into for the past 40 days... 3 months later im still a free man writing this review... Brian Prain is my only recomendation for anybody in a situation of a assultive case.. Thank you Brian!! Justice served
As I sit down to write this testimonial - I am struck with both emotion and an overwhelming sense of gratitude to Brian Prain. I contacted Brian regarding an Aggravated Doneatic Assault. I was being accused by an ex-girlfriend of mine who was out seeking revenge. Words cannot adequately express the attention, care, compassion and work that Mr. Prain demonstrated throughout this entire ordeal. We decided to take this charge to trial and we received a NOT GUILTY verdict. When many lawyers would have pushed their clients to only consider a plea, Mr. Prian provided valuable counsel so that I could better understand the process and navigate my way through a pretty complex and nerve wracking process. He was honest in his advice and evaluation - he was genuine in his concern and his efforts to bring justice were incredible. From the very first conversation that I had with Brian to my tearful embrace of him at the end of the trial - I felt that I was in capable, smart, and prepared hands. As I was going through the stressful process of selecting a lawyer to represent me, I went through the typical emotions that you go through when you're accused of something you didn't do. What's the strategy? How do we fight this? What's your experience? Can we win? How do we show the truth? What will happen to me and my family? Brian put me at ease - he was honest, smart, understanding and above all prepared. He is one of the most hard working and committed people I've ever met and I am so thankful that I made the decision to go with Brian. I can tell you that I owe more to him than I could ever dream of being able to give. He wasn't a fast talking salesman. He genuinely cares about his clines and their well being. I can assure you that making the decision to have Brian represent you will be one of the best decisions you've ever made in your life. I can promise you that you WILL NOT find a more hardworking and prepared lawyer. I owe very much to Brian Prain. He believed in me. He prepared out case better than I could have anticipated and delivered. The justice system is not always fair. It is complicated and sometimes intimidating. He knows how to help you navigate. He handles each case with a fury. I would unreservedly recommend him. He is incredible. I have so much respect for his professionalism and dedication to his clients.
Brian is the third attorney on my high profile case. I was not shy firing my last attorney who was very bad with communication, extremely rude, and careless with my situation. Brian is a honest and hardworking attorney who does not only care about the money. He cares about his performance, as well as his clients outcomes. Brians performance outweighs my last two attorneys performances by far. He's so well with communication and does whatever he can to better his clients situation. He's so well prepared to fight for his clients and will do anything he is asked of if he thinks it will better the situation. I would never think twice about going to another attorney. Brian has earned my respect not only as an attorney, but as a man also
Brian is simply the most dedicated lawyer one can find. He painstakingly works each client's case leaving no stone unturned. If only all attorneys could be as dedicated and competent as Brian at practicing law, the legal community and lawyers in general would not have such a negative reputation. I can emphatically state that Brian truly cares about each and every individual he represents. My fear, whether well founded or not, has always been that I will simply be processed by the criminal justice system (as, as such, be processed by the attorney that I have hired). Any fears I may have about lawyers and the system are re-soundly put to rest with Brian's representation. The criminal justice system is a seriously scary place. So there will always be concern. There just is. The system is not fun. Regardless, Brian truly cares about his client's well-being. He truly does, and that is something that should not be taken lightly, because most attorneys, rather than being concerned about their client's wants, interest and needs, are more concerned about themselves, their family and their own lives. Just not so with Brian. He takes nothing for granted. He will press the prosecution at every turn and leave no stone unturned. He is at the forefront in knowing the latest and modern trail techniques. The law is very technical. Law school can teach only so much. Even years of experience can only go so far because if any attorney has bad experiences he/she may simply build off of the bad and never get any better at their trade. Brian was trained by the best. He is a graduate of the Trial Lawyers College (Jerry Spence's is the most well respected advocate and Mr. Spence founded TLC). TLC is at the forefront of the latest trial techniques and graduating from this college is no easy task. Not only did Brian graduate, but he has thrived at being a lawyer. There is no one better. You want Brian at your side. You truly do.
Last summer we found ourselves in dire need, praying for assistance. Brian returned our first call within an hour of us contacting him. He spoke openly with us late into the evening as we described the crisis that had come upon our family. He calmed us down and answered many of our questions. The next day he cleared his schedule to meet with us. His knowledge was enlightening as he explained our options. His open and caring demeanor helped put us at ease and allowed us to freely express our concerns and needs. We felt our stresses ease as he handled each angle thoroughly, with intelligence and skill. During the weeks and months of our case, Brian routinely called to keep us up-to-date. He pursued every pathway that might threaten our case, bringing it finally to a satisfactory conclusion. Thankfully, our lives are back to normal now. Our family has come to see Brian, not only as a highly skilled professional, but also as a trustworthy friend. We highly recommend him.
