About
My practice and that of the firm, remains limited to family law. Our office concentrates on all aspects of family law including divorce, child custody, all financial aspects related to divorce and separation. We have extensive trial and appellate experience on issues related to child custody, tracing and classification of assets and income, division of property and child support and maintenance (formerly known as alimony). Some recent noteworthy successes include: The classification of Husband's stock in a closely held corporation as marital property. Prior to the marriage Husband held 2305 fully vested and exercisable stock options at a strike price of $1.00 per share. The options were not exercised until two years after the marriage and the strike price paid with marital funds. At the time of trial the stock was valued in excess of $6,000,000. The Wife, our client, was awarded $2,500,000 for her interest in the stock, from an investment of $2,305 of marital funds. We successfully defended the Judgment on appeal in the Second District Appellate Court and on a Petition for Leave to Appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court. The reversal of an award of exclusive possession of the marital residence to Wife. On Appeal in the First District Appellate Court, the trial court was found to have erred in ordering the Husband to vacate the marital residence due to the claim that his presence caused the Wife stress and discomfort. This was the first published case on the issue of exclusive possession in 17 years.

Brian represented me and handled all aspects of a difficult and lengthy post divorce custody proceeding. Brian is a tremendous advocate and based on his efforts I gained custody of my children (which is not easy for a father to accomplish). Brian made himself available at all times to discuss issues with me and answer my questions.
Brian Hurst is an excellent attorney and did an outstanding job representing me in my divorce. From early consultation and strategy, financial analysis to negotiation and settlement, Brian was responsive, knowledgable and thorough. His advice and counsel was outstanding, and he clearly explained and sought my input throughout the entire process. He was incredibly detailed, knew my case inside and out and didn't defer to a junior attorney. We communicated by email, phone and text and I appreciated his availability. We were a team, and I'm delighted that I hired him. My case took one year to negotiate and settle and 9 months post divorce he has worked with me to finalize multiple QDROs and DROs. I would highly recommend him to any client and I already passed his name to an acquaintance who was looking for a divorce attorney. She hired him.
I could not say enough good things about Brian. With his persistence and energy, Brian got me an absolutely great result in my divorce case. He is a hard-nosed negotiator and litigator and will vigorously protect your interests. He is also very personable and able to negotiate effectively with opposing counsel to get you the best deal possible outside of court. He has a therapist background and will guide you through the process with care and a soft touch. His office is great to deal with too. You absolutely will not go wrong with Brian.
They say, behind every good man is a good woman, some men don't realize that and unfortunately divorce happens. That being said, I believe behind every good woman is a great attorney. That is Brian Hurst. Brian never stops fighting for what is right. He is tough, courageous, does not shy away from hard work. He is highly experienced, strategic, knowledgeable, and most importantly accessible. I went through a brutal divorce. Without his help I do not know where I would be right now, or where my children would be... He represents what representation should be. Brian will fight for you, he will stand by you, he will not let you down. I cannot say enough about his abilities and skill. The finest family law attorney by far.
Brian was my lawyer through a high conflict divorce that was quite messy and protracted. He was always there for me, and was extremely responsive during the entire ordeal (including many hearings and a trial) and post-decree proceedings. I would recommend him without reservation to my closest friends.
