About
Attorney Brian Finnerty has been representing injured clients and insurance companies for over thirty years. Extensive experience “on both sides of the aisle” has given him unique insight into how insurers calculate the value of a given claim. Not surprisingly, these appraisals are often inadequate, not taking full account of the harm suffered. It is Brian's job to fight for the fair compensation each client deserves, from the claim's inception through its conclusion, whether by settlement or trial. Most claims are resolved by way of settlement, while others end up in court. While some lawsuits settle before reaching trial, others go the distance. Whether by way of settlement or litigation, Attorney Finnerty does whatever it takes to maximize each client's recoverable damages and obtain the highest compensation for the injuries sustained, the related pain and suffering, and any economic loss. Brian began working for his father, highly regarded trial lawyer John F. Finnerty, while attending Suffolk University Law School in the mid-1980’s. Attorney Finnerty, a World War II veteran often referred to as “one of the Deans of the Massachusetts Bar”, was depicted by actor James Mason in the celebrated 1982 film, “The Verdict”, set in Boston and also starring Paul Newman. The movie was based on one of Attorney Finnerty's medical malpractice cases, in which he represented the Archdiocese of Boston, and followed the best-selling novel by Barry Reed. Before attending law school, Brian was employed as a Deputy Assistant Clerk at the Middlesex Superior Court in Cambridge, where he learned the inner workings of the Massachusetts court system and served as courtroom clerk during some notable trials, including the infamous King Arthur’s police murder case. After obtaining his Juris Doctor degree and passing the bar exam, Attorney Finnerty was quickly “thrown to the wolves” by his boss, routinely appearing in Court, taking on new cases, and taking cases to trial. Following the passing of his father in 1994, Attorney Finnerty co-owned the family firm, Finnerty & Finnerty, in Boston for twelve years as senior trial counsel and partner, where he continued to represent both individual and corporate clients. Since 2006, he has owned Finnerty Law Office, serving clients in Boston, Cape Cod, Worcester, and throughout Massachusetts. His practice also includes business and contract law, criminal defense, civil rights, and employment matters. After thirty years, Attorney Finnerty continues to get the kinds of results his clients have come to expect.

Brian understood my car accident and head injury because he's had a similar experience. It helps a lot to be represented by someone who understands more than the legal aspects of representing you. He was careful and patient in dealing with the insurance company, and in the end we got a settlement for the maximum award without having to go to court. The best possible result.
Brian helped us after our son was involved in a car accident. We found him to be very professional, straightforward and easy to work with. He listened to our concerns and worked with us to agree a strategy for how to approach the case. Although our son's case was not particularly complex we wanted Brian to represent our son in court. Thanks to Brian we got the best possible result we could have wished for. We are very happy we asked Brian to help us and highly recommend him to others.
Brian Finnerty is an excellent personal injury attorney and a truly gifted trial attorney. I have seen him in action and he simply outclasses his opponents with his meticulous preparation and his unfailing ability to persuade a jury. When friends or family members are injury victims I will not send them to anyone but Brian Finnerty.
Attorney Finnerty is very approachable and patient in listening to my concerns and discussing the issues. He is thorough in going over the case, and always responsive to my questions. He is a great attorney, and I highly recommend him.
Met him through my work. My need for an attorney is not very often. I was involved in an automobile case where I had been hit by an elderly driver. It was clear for me that if I received any compensation it would be minimal at best. Brian developed the case based on the facts and was driven to see it through a reasonable conclusion which he did. I feel the outcome was far more rewarding than I had ever expected. He is also a great family man for good measure.
