About
Brett is dual licensed, handling family law matters in both Oregon and Washington. "I approach each case with an eye toward settlement while at the same time preparing for trial" says Brett. "This helps prevent surprises and supports a strong negotiating position." When litigation is called for "I have the experience and knowledge to prepare, manage, and effectively present the case to the court, whether it involves complex or basic asset division, custody and parenting time, child or spousal support, domestic violence or any combination of these matters." "Perhaps the most important qualities Mr. Bender provides to his clients are "experience, knowledge of the law and court procedures, and assertiveness tempered by common sense and an appropriate sense of humor" states Managing Attorney Colin Amos. Brett explains further "I strive to use those qualities to ensure that my clients develop reasonable expectations regarding potential case outcomes and to encourage and facilitate fair and equitable negotiated settlements." Brett is married and a step-father of two intelligent, active and fun teen-aged boys. He stays fit by biking, skiing (active member of the Mt. Hood Ski Patrol) and playing and coaching basketball. In addition to being a voracious reader, Brett plays the drums and is a recorded songwriter.

Brett counseled me prior to and during all of my divorce proceedings. He was great at helping me understand what was vital versus minutiae when it came to finalizing the parenting plan and divorce decree. He was prepared and also had me prepared with all of my financial, business, and personal documents needed for the mediation. He had a great relationship with the mediator we used and knew how to deal with the personality types of my ex and her attorney. Brett has seen pretty much everything in the family law arena and has the humorous stories to prove it and help soothe you when the emotions start to get the worst of you. Brett is a great person and an awesome family law attorney. You will feel confident using Brett for any family law matter you have. I know I did.
I hired Brett to help me end a 47 year marriage. It was a very difficult situation for me. He helped me navigate those rocky waters, adjust my expectations of the outcome, and end up with what I needed to live the rest of my life. When I first met him I told him I wanted a bulldog for an attorney. He was that for me.
I consulted with Brett regarding options on the family home for a client of mine who was considering a divorce. My business is home mortgage and talking through "what if" scenarios allowed me to create financing options for the client to know their options. Because of Brett's approach, the client ended up hiring Brett to represent them for their divorce proceedings. Brett was straightforward, understanding, but didn't sugar coat realities that the client would have to address. We were a team, collaborating for the benefit of the client; Brett understood my deadlines and details required for the home financing the client wanted. This helped me tremendously do my job, and of course, the client's business/divorce settlement was concluded efficiently. Thank you Brett.
I hired Brett to resolve a contract issue. He was extremely helpful and effective. I was able to get the issue resolved without litigation and to my COMPLETE satisfaction. I recommend Brett 100%!
I cannot say enough about how happy I was with Brett's professionalism and knowledge of family law. He broke down what could be expected and the proper course of action in such a way that I could be comfortable and understand where my case was at all times. On top of these great attributes, Brett is a good guy and easily earned my trust which, in my opinion, is very critical when dealing with matters that will affect my life for years to come. I would highly recommend Brett to anyone considering his services.
I've worked with Brett for many years, the most challenging time of my life was during my deployment to Afghanistan. I needed a voice of representation and Brett was there for me. He was very accommodating with communication barriers and helped establish not only Skype time with my son while I was in combat, but my ex had moved across state and Brett negotiated a parenting plan that worked great for me when I returned! I got more visitation that most fathers get and I couldn't be happier with the hard work he put in for me. I would recommend anyone seeking a parenting plan to speak with Brett and get the most for their money.
Brett represented me in a divorce. Brett is a nice guy. He is fun to talk to and he has a great program to sort out assets. Having said that, I did most of the grunt work associated with this claim including drafting key settlement terms and negotiating the deal with my x. I feel as though he was under pressure from his firm to bill a certain about per file regardless of the work he does. I do not feel he provide value equal to the amount I paid him.
