I wish we had hired Brett from the start but we had another attorney for the first few years of our custody battle. And she messed it up time and time again. The first thing that impressed me about Brett is how fast he worked. When he told us that he was going to do something, he did it immediately. Most of the time he already had it done or started before we even left his office. If he said he was going to call someone for us then he usually did it right then. If he said he was going to file a motion or paperwork with the court it was done the same day he told us he was going to do it. He really cared about us. Within a very short time my wife not only had full custody but I was able to adopt all three of my step kids. I cant thank Brett enough. He also was really reasonable with what we were charged. The day I adopted my kids we were all proud to take pictures with him as part of our family. Also my youngest was so impressed with him that he has decided he wants to be an attorney when he grows up! He is a GREAT attorney because he cares.

I hired this attorney to defend me in a custody battle. I had a pretty solid case in my favor with a custody evaluation in my favor to back it up. Brett had my case for several months and I assumed he was working on the case. A few weeks before trial I realized Brett had not asked me about any previous information that was absolutely vital to the case. A week before trial I emailed him a 12 page document with information. I got zero response from him and didn't even know if he received it. The first day of our hearing I showed up very early to the court house assuming he would be there to go over the information. I watched as the opposing attorney showed up with 2 boxes full of evidence. Brett Anthon showed up a few minutes before the start of the hearing with a yellow note pad and 2 pages of notes. That was it. I asked him what our plan was and he said it was their day to present their witnesses. And then we walked into the court room. The custody evaluator was the first witness. The custody report was in my favor yet Brett Anthon did not even bring a copy of the custody evaluation. The opposing attorney gave him a copy of it. That report should have been picked over and over with questions about each area that was against me. Brett Anthon prepared nothing like that. Instead his notebook contained a few questions about borderline personality disorder which was one thing the report stated the opposing party had signs of. I knew as I sat there this was not going to go well for me. I was tempted that week to go through the report and list out questions for the custody evaluator to point out all the discrepancies but realized that was what my attorney that I hired was for. So to get to court and realize he hadn't done any of that work, I was furious. At the end of the first day Brett Anthon brought me into a room, with other witnesses, and told me that it didn't look good for me and that I should settle the case or I might risk losing all rights to my kids. And then what he said next I will never forget. He said, "But let me know what you want to do so I have time to prepare your case." There were 2 days lapse before we were set to resume trial. I am no attorney but I know that not preparing a case before the trial starts is a sure way to lose. So I did what my attorney recommended and I settled. I went from being a stay at home mom with my children and a protective order against my ex for domestic violence to seeing my children 8 weeks out of the year. I know for a fact if I had represented myself like I previously have done, this never would have happened. I would have shown up to court the first day with every piece of evidence I might need to defend myself along with pages of questions for the witnesses. But I wasn't given that chance that day because I hired Brett Anthon to do it for me. And I found out the hard way that this was the biggest mistake of my life.
