In the early 1990's, I was not only a victim of a crime but also of the SC legal system. As a white, well-educated female from Washington, DC, I could not make the Orangeburg sheriff's office understand that they had arrested the wrong person in my case. After they gave up on finding the person who had raped me, I left Charleston without any hope that my attacker would ever be found. Then one day, John and a private detective showed up at my apartment in DC. They refused to go away. Finally, I gave them a chance to tell what has transpired after I left SC. I am rarely speechless, but their recounting made me so. If John had not been willing to take on the wrongful imprisonment case, I would have never known who attacked me. His legal work afforded me the opportunity to confront my attacker. I felt able to move on into the next phase of my life after that. Many thanks to John for his legal capabilities and tenacity.
