Beatrice Fung was referred to me through a friend of a friend when my husband and I suddenly found ourselves faced with a child abuse allegation in which our 10 month old daughter was removed from our home. During my initial consultation with Beatrice, she asked me what my ultimate goal was for this case, and I replied to get our daughter back. From that point forward, every advisement she gave me was to reunify us with our daughter. She also expressed to me that she believed my husband and I were innocent. It was incredibly comforting to know that the person we had fighting for our family believed in us. During the process, Beatrice was always quick to reply to my questions/concerns (and I had a lot of them), kept me well informed, and never once did I feel that she was trying to drag out the court process for the sake of financial gains. Her ultimate goal was to reunite us with our daughter as quickly as possible, and that is exactly what she did. In our particular case, our daughter had been “diagnosed” with bilateral leg fractures that our known for being highly specific for abuse. This was a complete shock to us as our 10 month old daughter had shown no signs of injury to her legs prior to this diagnosis. Ultimately, with the help of medical experts, she was able to show that our daughter never had broken legs, and our case was completely dismissed. We were warned early in our case that once social services are involved it is about proving their case, not finding the truth. In our case, social services was recommending that my husband and I loose custody of our daughter permanently, and never be given the chance to reunify! This was still their recommendation after 3 credible pediatric radiologists and 1 pediatric orthopedic surgeon determined that our daughter never had leg fractures. If you find yourself or your family faced with allegations by social services, YOU MUST HIRE A GOOD ATTORNEY! Do not make the mistake of thinking that just because you are innocent things will “sort itself out”. First off, I would never wish this experience upon any decent parents. This system is so messed up and just creates lots of pain for parents who are NOT supposed to be here but somehow by mistake or misdirection got put here in Dependency court. That said: BEA HAS GIVEN ME A HUGE PART OF MY LIFE BACK WITH MY CHILDREN. Each day under detention was a struggle just to wake up these last 6 months and I'm happy that it's over and I do have you to thank for that.
