About
I have 30 years of expertise winning Social Security for clients in Contra Costa, Alameda, San Francisco, and Marin counties. I have successfully represented hundreds of clients unable to work due to the whole range of physical and psychiatric disabilities, including bipolar disorder, spinal injuries, rheumatoid arthritis, depression, repetitive stress injuries, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. I served as an expert for the Volunteer Legal Services Program, SSI for Kids Project of the San Francisco State Bar Association and was honored by the California Supreme Court for my pro bono work on behalf of disabled Social Security claimants. Ms. Mann worked with the Hawkins Center as an expert on issues relating to Social Security work incentives. I earned her B.A. degree from Reed College and her J.D. degree from the University of San Francisco Law School.

Barbara clearly has experience with the SSDI process start to finish and she shepherded me through a complicated process by providing clear explanations every step of the way. She was mindful of the limitations of my disability allowing us to meet remotely. She has familiarity with local courts and individual ALJs. She is compassionate and professional. She made my file accessible to me all along. What I appreciated most of all was that she quoted my explanation of my rare disability and how it affects me in her brief. I believe it was compelling and helped us attain a favorable decision in addition to her meticulous case presentation. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone applying for SSDI.
Disability Attorney, Barbara Mann deserves so much credit for winning my disability case. I can not give her enough praise for her steadfast commitment, compassion, smarts, and thoroughness to ensure I get my justified social security case. Of the 3 specialized attorneys I initially interviewed (So. Marin and the East Bay), Barbara was the only attorney that showed real compassion for my situation. That definitely struck a chord. People who are requesting a disability judge and hearing have enough stressors and self-judgment about their health condition. From the first call, Barbara said she would file my appeal with the judges at no extra charge, a value-add. This factor, and Barbara's willingness to listen to my complex neurological pain condition (so she can best represent me) allowed me to move forward with her as my attorney. Barbara was always responsive to my phone calls and emails. She gave me practical advice on walking through this process. She definitely knows disability law and has decades of experience. I would imagine judges and their staff appreciate her respectful demeanor in their interactions. When I addressed a concern about the hearing being moved from my county to San Francisco County (more challenging for me to get to physically), Barbara stepped up (twice) to get the location changed. Her persistence made all the difference. Thanks to Barbara, this is one less life's worry.
Barbara is very professional and won my Social Security benefits. She knew what information was needed from my doctors to be successful. She is excellent, I highly recommend her.
I initially met with Barbara in her Berkeley office so see if she could help me. My third appeal for Social Security Disability was stalled somewhere in the bureaucracy. She helped polish my appeal to promote it to a court date and was with me in the court room. My outcome was Fully Agreement! Those many years trying to do this on my own were lessons to me to encourage everyone to seek Barbara’s help instead. She timely returns phone calls and emails to keep you informed. She understands being disabled and delays on my part due to the pain from my disability. You communicate directly with Barbara; no staff in between. Barbara knows the Social Security Administration process and what to do next to get an improved outcome versus you trying it on your own. I have recommended Barbara to others and Strongly recommend her to You!!
Barbara was an awesome attorney! After searching high and low for representation, she was Heaven sent. I was able to reach her via phone and email. After being successful in winning my case, she is still around when I need to ask her a question or two. Give her the opportunity, Barbara will not disappoint you!
Great Experience with Barbara. She is very knowledgeable and helped me through entire process for SSI. Process is very hard and long. An experienced lawyer and dedicated one is necessary to get through the process.
I interviewed 5 lawyers before choosing Attorney Mann. She is friendly and low-key, but don't let that fool you for a minute. She reassured me and kept me calm. She told me exactly what do do, when to do it, and was brilliant in the ODAR hearing. I got a fully favorable result from my ODAR hearing. I highly recommend Barbara. She is unflappable, calm, cool and knows her business.
