My case was a long journey for my freedom with twists and turns at every step. It dealt with international issues and also a complex interplay of comity and duress. Not only that, our opposition was a literal team of lawyers handpicked by my former spouse’s family, themselves lawyers. The issues of comity, duress, and an injunction from a foreign court all required careful planning and meticulous evidence gathering. Barbara’s expertise, thorough knowledge, and research on every pertinent case law resulted in the formation of a strong case allowing us to ultimately win against stacked odds. She really believed in my case and worked tirelessly through long hours of deposition and a week-long trial that required weekend working hours and late nights on numerous occasions. The trust and conviction Barbara had for my case was her driving force. I felt she was like my mother figure watching out for me, demanding justice. She is compassionate and was not flustered when we arrived at challenging situations. She was positive in times demanding pessimism but realistic and solid in her advice. Although we won judgement from the court, there was a subsequent appeal. She then gave me the right guidance though the appeal process and procured a mediated result that was better than I’d ever expected at the outset. Through it all, Barbara gave me right guidance to resolve the case. I couldn’t have resolved this case without Barbara. Her team was infallible and went out of their way to help out. I would highly recommend her services. My odyssey was not easy. Having trust and faith in Barbara made it more palatable, and I feel I got this and more from Barbara.
Barbara is the third attorney I have hired and I my only wish that I would have found her first, years ago. She is very knowledgeable, responsive, and has a team of great people. She delivered everything that she said she would. She didn't make any promises that she wasn't able to keep. If I need an attorney for anything again, she will be the first and only person I call! If you are on the fence about another attorney and need a second opinion, I highly recommend taking the time to talk with Barbara.
She was thorough....precise...knowledgeable...professional and most of all...personable
I was referred to Barbara from my previous attorney of19 years ago during a very nasty divorce. I was looking to file a support modification and Barbara was extremely helpful. She understood that I had very limited funds and needed to be as efficient as possible to keep costs under control. However, the other side made sure that wouldn't happen and Barbara did a great job negotiating some very muddy waters. The family court in Hillsboro is one place on earth I hope no other man has to visit and at the end of the hearing I felt quite chewed up. It wasn't until the next day when I flew home I realize and Barbara obtained exactly what I was looking for and has at least for now put some sanity to the never ending unfairness of permanent spousal support in the state of Oregon. I would recommend Barbara Aaby to anyone stuck in the Oregon's Family Law cavern. She is professional, respected by all the attorney in Portland and will not feed you hopes that can't be met. If I would need another attorney in Oregon, Barbara Aaby would be my first call. You will be very happy and in great hands to work with her.
I would highly recommend Barbara and her staff. She worked tirelessly for me and I believe I was treated very fairly. She is very knowledgeable, ethical, and available to talk whenever I needed her. I can't speak highly enough of her. I would not gave survived my divorce without her. It is a difficult situation to be in and having a lawyer who I trusted and had faith in was paramount.
Ms. Aaby took over my case after in her words it was "horribly mismanaged" by former counsel. Unfortunately, Ms. Aaby essentially did what former counsel did. It took 6 months, thousands of dollars to convince her that I had sole custody on the record, which I did and she and her office did not send over requested information to a psychologist despite having a lot of time to do so, thus skewing the results of an evaluation and made opposing look good and us look mediocre. She is a mediocre attorney in my opinion who will berate and blame her client.
Aaby told me my Child Attending School couldn't waive participation in a child support modification. She was wrong. Her error prolonged proceedings. When I complained, she offered a substantial refund, but refused to provide it unless I agreed not to tell. She also said she'd waive her consultation fee if I hired her, then charged me anyway.
