About
Audrey Butler is a 1990 graduate of UGA School of Law. She passed the Georgia Bar in 1990 and went on to serve as Assistant District Attorney for Clark and Oconee Counties in Georgia. She continued her career as a prosecutor as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, Criminal Division. After years of battling in the courts, Audrey left to become a missionary in Romania. She remained on staff with the mission organization, where she trained as an international hostage negotiator. This training coupled with her years of litigation experience give her a unique perspective and background for her current work as a South Carolina licensed attorney and certified Mediator. At the Dove Murphy Law Group, Audrey’s focuses her practice area on Probate and Estate Law. She creates wills, powers of attorney and health care powers of attorney. Audrey also files Guardianship and Conservatorship actions in Probate Court to protect people who are incapacitated due to illness or disability. Another developing area of practice that Audrey plans to expand at the Dove Murphy Law Group is collaborative divorce law, which focuses on providing support to families and avoiding adversarial litigation. Collaborative divorce can include the support of counselors, accountants, and child specialists. Collaborative law is also more private than divorces litigated in South Carolina Family Court. In addition to her enthusiasm for law, Audrey also enjoys antiquing, letterpress printing, and reading mysteries.

I got to know Ms. Butler while assisting her and some of her friends find homes in Rock Hill, a couple of years ago. While working with Audrey on her real estate purchase, I discovered she has extensive experience working with the elderly and helping them with their estate planning. Audrey has been a terrific adviser for our family as we work through the challenges of caring for our aging parent. She is very compassionate and dedicated.
I went to Ms. Butler for help updating my will, power of attorney and medical power of attorney. My situation involved some complexities, and I thought I knew what I wanted in my will. However, Ms. Butler listened carefully to what my overall goals were and then clarified how I needed to reach them. She could foresee potential pitfalls with what I was planning and instead guided me in the planning necessary to carry out my actual intentions. Without any pushiness or condescension, she laid out various options and the implications of each one. I have worked with 4 other attorneys in the past for various reasons (my initial will, divorce/custody arrangements, business needs), and I have never before had an attorney do such a thorough job of listening to my needs and explaining options and implications and possible pitfalls. She covered every base that I needed addressed, AND she completed the work in a timely manner. Because of her skill as an attorney, her concern for her clients, and her reasonable rates, I would strongly recommend Ms. Butler to anyone needing legal expertise. There is no question in my mind that she genuinely served my best interests.
In May, my wife and I hired Audrey Butler to handle her father's estate. Ms. Butler has done a great job of walking us through all the details of the probate process. She has answered all of our questions and has kept us informed of everything that was going on and all that we need to do. We have also asked Ms. Butler to review and update our wills and other documents. We highly recommend Audrey Butler. She is professional and compassionate.
