About

Dealing with an arrest or a criminal charge can be terrifying. As a criminal defense attorney, I help people who are struggling with the worst time of their lives. It is my job to help people understand their options, help them make informed decisions, and then zealously fight for their interests. For me criminal defense is more than going to court and making legal arguments, it is helping people solve problems. When clients come to me with a problem, what matters most is my client’s goals. For some, getting a dismissal or a not guilty verdict is the only option. For others, making the problem go away as quickly and quietly as possible is more important. I make it a priority to understand my client’s goals and values and fight to help them reach a desired outcome. I understand that my client’s life is more than just their legal problems. In most cases, a person’s legal issue affects other areas of their lives including family relationships and work. As your attorney, I will not only help you navigate the legal system but I will give you guidance and support to bring normalcy back to your life.

RE: Melissa Tobin, Esq - PiltserCowan Law, LLC This matter, involving an altercation that took place at a food and beverage business establishment. Because the altercation involved several persons, and alcohol was involved, the police were called, and I was taken into custody. It was determined that no physical injuries to any other persons occurred as a result of any of my actions, but I was charged with: (1) Felony Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon & Misdemeanor Malicious Destruction of Property. With my professional life and emotional well-being at stake, and upon recommendation of people I trust, I contacted PiltserCowan Law, who assigned Melissa Tobin, Esq. to take my case. One of the extra benefits of retaining Melissa Tobin at PiltserCowan Law, was her around-the-clock support team of hardworking, responsive, tactical, caring, and down-to-earth associates. Facing charges that would certainly threaten my livelihood, Melissa’s strategic approach, negotiation skills, and zealous advocacy, in and outside of court, ultimately compelled the Prosecutor’s office to dismiss all charges prior to arraignment. Facing resistance from other parties involved, Melissa engaged in difficult negotiations with the prosecutor’s office, and other third parties to the matter. She is a fantastic lawyer, but also a genuinely good-person with a big heart, who comes in swinging in the face of an uphill battle. When she speaks, people listen. Instead of a trial, and both misdemeanor and felony charges, I was able to move on with my life. During months leading up to the incident, I had been struggling with alcohol abuse and depression. Melissa was aware, and ensured the conditions were also a benefit to me personally. In doing so, so the pretrial probation agreement included AA meetings, reasonable restitution payments, apology letters, and medical appointments. Melissa fought for a pre-trail probation agreement, rarely awarded, which saved my reputation, and gave rise to improvements in my physical and emotional health. I have since remained sober from alcohol, and my life has improved. I wasn’t just any defendant; I was represented by Melissa Tobin, and that made the difference.

Attorney Tobin was great to work with. She has been very responsive during the time she represented me, as well as after my case was dismissed. I could not have achieved the best possible outcome without her representation (pretrial diversion). I would highly recommend hiring her
