About
Andrew Byers' elder law practice focuses on the legal needs of older clients and their families, and works with a variety of legal tools and techniques to meet the goals and objectives of the older client. Under this holistic approach, we handle estate planning issues and counsel clients about planning for incapacity with alternative decision making documents. We also assist clients and their families in planning for possible long-term care needs, including nursing home care. Asset protection and obtaining Medicaid or Veteran's benefits are all part of our elder law practice.

We hired Andrew to create a trust for my aging parents. He took the time to make my Mother comfortable with the process. He answered all my calls and gave me clear answers on how to proceed. He also provided help with the Aid and Attendance benefit from the VA. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of these services.
In support of my 94 year old Mother-in-Law I needed the services of an Elder Law Attorney that could construct an asset protection trust structure compliant with the requirements of the Veterans Administration Aid and Attendance benefit. Selecting a professional in any area can be difficult. In my career I worked with several attorneys specializing in international technology licensing and supply agreements and recognized that in any discipline skill levels vary. To narrow the field in this selection process I met with a past President of the Michigan Elder Law Attorney Association for guidance and then two attorneys specializing in this area. I judged Mr. Byers to be the better candidate and through his work the VA Aid and Attendance Benefit was granted. He also provided the full spectrum of Estate Planning documents. The VA process was an "ordeal." Mr. Byers was persistent. He determined the basis for the initial unfavorable VA decision and worked the appeal process to gain the full benefit. He is the highly qualified specialist needed to develop the complex elder law structures that comply with the requirements of our legal systems.
I had the opportunity to actually sit down with Andrew Byers and discuss concerns with my dad's estate. He was very helpful in giving me specific information as to what to do for my father as his power of attorney and caregiver. We discussed things that were in my fathers will and trust that I did not understand and helped me to make sense of what to do on my fathers behalf. Dealing with extremely elderly parents is a challenge in itself. Andrew answered questions and did not rush me through the process of getting a better grasp on the next steps in my fathers estate plan. I had never really understood or looked over a will before. And why would I? I am lucky enough to have both my elderly parents still living into their late 80's and 90's. But one day I will need to be prepared. After spending an hour or so with Andrew Byers I feel much better about the verbage and what the will and trust actually do.
I hired Andrew to prepare a number of estate planning documents for my mother. I'm a lawyer but not familiar with Michigan estate planning law, so I was pleased to find Andrew's firm and impressed with his responsiveness and thoroughness, as well as with how he and his staff interacted with my mother.
Mr. Beyer worked on my fathers estate, and also got Medicaid assistance for my mothers husband. During this process Andrew did a great job in what turned out to be a difficult task. Glad he was on our side. Stellar performance.
Good told me what I need to do.
In each of my contacts with Byers he was professional, knowledgeable, thorough, patient and compassionate. I could not have asked for better. His advice was expert and gave me the confidence I needed to navigate the bureaucracy that held my family's future in its hands. I offer to all my highest recommendation to Andrew Byers for elder-law legal assistance.
Andrew Byers is an outstanding attorney. He is very knowledgeable with estate planning. He created an estate trust for my father and my wife and I were so impressed with his work we decided to have him create a trust for our estate. We have had other attorneys in the past, but they did not even compare to Mr. Byers. Our family gives him an A+. Thank you
Mr. Byers helped guide me through the process of getting my aging parents affairs in order. He was professional, knowledgeable and very compassionate to my cause. I would highly recommend Mr. Byers for those in need of an attorney.
Andrew was hired to file Medicaid papers for my dad and estate protection for my mother. His legal expertise kept my father in the nursing home when the home stated there were no medicaid beds available . Andrew was very detailed in what financial backup was needed from us to file and prove Medicaid need. His fee was very reasonable and he only billed for time actually used when my dad died unexpectedly. We also had him do a trust and all the necessary "powers" for my mother which was done in a very timely manner. All four of us adults who worked with him during this process were very pleased and would highly recommend him.
