About
As an estate planning attorney, my favorite part of my job is getting to know my clients and their families, talking with them about the type of legacy they want to leave, and then working with my clients to plan for their life, secure their loved ones' futures, and preserve their family story.I began my legal career as a paralegal for a well-respected family law firm in Raleigh, North Carolina. Through my many years working as a paralegal, I was able to gain valuable insight, not only into the mechanics of working with clients during some of the worst times of their lives, but also the significant impact legal professionals can have on their clients. My compassionate and empathetic nature made me a lifeline for my clients. The skills and traits that I developed and honed over those years now serve me well in my work as an estate planning attorney.I attended law school at Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach. Although living in Virginia Beach was wonderful, the pull of family back home was too great. My decision to return to home was validated when my father was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia just months after I finished from law school. Building a law practice while being "on call" to help my mother care for my ailing father was not easy, but there were many precious moments with Dad during his 4-year journey with Lewy Body Dementia that I would not trade for anything. My experience with my father makes me even more passionate about helping people plan for whatever life throws their way!

My wife and I set up a revocable family trust with Privette Legacy Planning. We set up a consultation meeting with Amy. We felt that Amy had the expertise and great attitude to put together a trust for us. She exhibited a great amount of patience with us as she translated legal terms in our trust to plain English! We’re glad we finally moved ahead with her firm. We felt the price we paid for her services was fair. Amy’s assistant, Sara, supported us during the entire process. Amy wanted to be sure our documents were set up properly and that our assets were named properly to the trust. This office even assisted us in filling out the paperwork to transfer most of our holdings to the trust. This is quite a process, so this help meant a lot to us. It was a pleasure working with this firm.
Amy was the best lawyer I've ever worked with. This is definitely her wheel and she's a master at it. Specifically, Amy was very educational, patient with our questions, only moved forward when we were comfortable and fair with pricing. I would highly recommend her without reservation.
We highly recommend Amy Privette for estate planning. We had a will and estate plan from twenty years ago. Our family and the laws have changed much in those years. Amy did an excellent job explaining the estate planning process. She walked us through the various options available. In addition, Amy provided examples and scenarios so we could see the benefits and limitations of various estate planning tool options. Amy interpreted the legal speak for us. She was patient with us when we had questions and answered each question thoroughly. We feel confident with our estate plans.
We moved here from California and we’re told by our financial advisor at Edward Jones that our will may not be valid in North Carolina and to contact Amy for help. We did and she drew up a new will for us that is valid in this state. She is great to work with and we feel very glad that she was recommended to us.
I hired Amy Privette to establish a revocable living trust for me following my recent divorce. She was highly recommended to me by my financial advisor, and I was extremely satisfied with her professionalism, competence, and attention to detail throughout the process. She is very organized, was always clear about the steps leading to the trust completion and what needed to be done next, as well as answwering any questions I had along the way. We mainly communicated through calls and emails since I live outside the Raleigh area. She genuinely desires to put together a trust/will suited to your individual needs and family circumstances. Once the trust document was completed, and after reviewing it first through email, I met with her in person and went over everything in detail. I appreciated the comprehensive set of instructions for funding the trust, and the organized binder with all the essential documents inside. I would highly recommend Amy for all of your estate planning needs. She was a pleasure to work with and did an exemplary job.
Following an initial recommendation from an investment advisor, my husband and I chose Privette Legacy Planning. This was both due to cost and the fact that, based on an interview, Amy appeared thorough, knowledgeable, motivated, and calm. Within two months after my husband signed his documents, I had to call on Amy to provide estate services. Amy understands that she is working with people during a difficult time in their lives, and her guidance enabled me to move forward while grieving. Proactive lists and detailed questions were part of her work, and I always had an action plan/way forward after meeting with Amy. I was very grateful that Amy did the small amount of probate work needed and I did not have to go to the Wake County Courthouse. As we close out the estate, I am indeed aware that this transaction has been held to a high standard. My husband’s estate had some international heirs, meaning that attorneys in a foreign country will be able to review the estate documents if they choose to do so. I am certain that the documents produced by Privette Legacy Planning will answer all questions and demonstrate that the estate has been distributed according to the terms of the will/trust in a professional and accurate manner.
I was very lucky which is an understatement to have Amy referred to me by a family friend. I was and am still so grateful for the referral because Amy turned out to be all that I could possible hope for in a lawyer and more! I met with Amy because my father had passed away and I needed a lawyer to help with his estate. Upon meeting Amy, I knew I was in the best hands possible, she literally came to my rescue and took care of every detail of the estate for me from opening up the estate to closing the estate. Amy is professional, prompt, kind and considerate, she has tremendous empathy and is totally supportive. I could not and would have not wanted to do this without her. I will continue to work with Amy going down the road knowing she will put my best interest at heart which provides me a comfort level which I sincerely and absolutely appreciate!
A lot of turns in the road with an estate not to mention two within six months. Amy and Sara were with me since day one until the end. I hope in the end more people will use this group!
Imagine having to prepare a Will&Trust within a short period of time after your loved one's diagnosed with cancer? There's so much to think about and so many details that it seems completely overwhelming and frankly impossible! Amy's very professional, knowledgeable, thorough, patient and most of all caring. She walked us step-by-step, in a respectful manner, using examples and discussing scenarios that never occurred to us. She made sure all of our "I's" were dotted and "T's" were crossed. She responds quickly to any calls, emails and is always pleasant. It is without reservation that I recommend her to family, friends and neighbors. As a matter of fact, a couple of my friends/neighbors are currently working with Amy. They have all had very positive feedback about her and the work she does.
Our work with Amy to establish our wills, powers of attorney and trusts was a very positive experience. She educated us on how to best structure our documents especially the trusts. Amy listened very well and the process from initial meeting to signing was very smooth. Never felt rushed nor confused. She is a trusted adviser!
